Chapter Activities

1. New Members Recruitment

On March 25, 2013, we have a meeting on recruiting new members. I

introduced the SPIE and the Student Chapter in our university to the

freshmen, called on them to be a part of the chapter because we can enjoy

ourselves a lot to be SPIE student members. After the meeting, more than

20 students chose to join our chapter.

2. The new member welcomes activity

On June 24, 2013, in order to welcome the 14 new chapter members, and

build the new connections between new student members, a hiking to

Western Qing Tombs was organized. We had a good time and our SPIE

family got to know more about each other.

4.Reports

We invited Professor Mete Atature from Cambridge University to

give our chapter a report about his work, The main content of his

dissertation is about network architecture with quantum dot spins and

photons, on Dec 14, 2013 .

5. The 2013 Leadership workshop and O+P in San Diego This

summer, Yixu Wang, on behalf of our chapter, attended the Leadership

workshop and O+P held by SPIE in San Diego, CA with officers from

other student chapters, during August 24 to 29 ,2013.

6. Participate conference including:

Professor Chongqing Wu, Dr Fu Wang, Dr Kuanglu YU attended the Asia

Communication and Photonics Conference on 12 November 2013.

And then, Professor Chongqing Wu, Dr Fu Wang attended The 2013

International Conference on Optical Instrument and Technology and gave

a report on the conference. At the same time, They listened to the

excellent reports.

8.Take part in SPIE Capital Normal University Chapter’s activity

Our club were invited to take part in the seminar sponsored by

Capital Normal University SPIE student Chapter on December 22, 2013.

In the seminar, Mingxuan Sun from Beijing Jiaotong University student

club gave a lecture on full vector detection of stress based P-OTDR.

Planned activities

1. Introducing Our chapter to other students and enrolling more new

members into our chapter

2. Enhancing the connections between our chapter and other Chinese

student clubs of SPIE. We want to invite some chapters in Beijing to

visit our advanced laser lab, and in turn, to visit their labs to get an

idea of their unique experiments.

3. Inviting more professors to give a lecture to our members and other

students. Due to the limitation of our major, speakers invited were

mostly majoring in fiber optics and optical engineering . We will try to

invite some other ones who are majoring in Quantum optics . This will

definitely expand our knowledge to the field of optical industry.

4. Many members of our chapter have graduated and had good jobs. We

will invited some of them to give us some experiences on finding

good jobs.

5. Attending conferences is a good way to meet new college, to make

new friends, to know new companies, to establish new connections.

So we will encourage our members to attend more conferences.
