Impumelelo Educational Trust
Annual Report2014
FOREWORD BY THE CHAIRPERSON MR SIPHO DIBAKWANE
It is our pleasure to present to you our important stakeholder, sponsor, donor, member,
interested parties and individuals, the 2014 Impumelelo Educational Trust Annual report.
This report gives a detailed account of the progress achieved during the implementa-
tion of the 2014 programme of action and the general management of our community
entity. However, it is equally important that we indicate that our trust was registered in 2012
with the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development and formally launched
in March 2013 at Ekuthuleni Hall in Simile, Sabie. The trust was given its blessings by the
MEC for Mpumalanga Department of Education, Ms Reginah Mhaule who was the main
speaker on the day of the launch. The main objective of our trust is to assist our community
to address educational challenges.
Since its formation in 2012, our trust has grown from pillar to strength. The year 2014 was the
first financial year in which the trust had to test and implement its programmes. It was also a
year in which one of our founding trustees Mr Tshwarelo Penwell Mashego had to sadly pass on. We will miss his selfless spirit and
contribution. May his soul rest in peace.
During 2014 we managed to implement following programmes: Matric Awards, Career Expo and Nelson Mandela Day and
ongoing membership / donor recruitment. Throughout 2014, our trust managed to partially fund two learners from Memezile High
School to pursue their studies at Tshwane University of Technology and University of Limpopo. The careers being pursued by the
learners are Geology and Electrical Engineering.
Whilst notable achievements have been recorded, it is important to point out that a lot still needs to be done. Our financial
resources are still at a very low base and we hereby request for consistent contribution by all that can afford. Any contributions
made annually or monthly are still acceptable. Our office remains largely part time and not fully operational. We hope that going
into 2015 such will change. We call upon our fellow community members to join our trust either as volunteers, monthly/ annual
contributors, sponsors, donors to mention but a few in order to make Impumelelo Educational Trust a success for all. We hereby
wish to thank everyone who has been with us since we formed the trust. We thank every individual, stakeholder sponsor, funder,
monthly contributor that has given up their precious resources and time to contribute in the development of our community and
country. We also wish to welcome everyone that continues to join us in this journey and to them we say “we are all in this together
for our country and for future of our children”. On behalf of the Board of Trustees of Impumelelo Educational Trust I thank you.

1. Introduction
This report outlines the progress achieved thus far in the implementation of the Impumelelo Educational Trust annual programme
for 2014 academic year. The programme for 2014 includes: Matric Awards for Class of 2013,Career Expo,Mandela Day, Fund
Raising weekend ,Annual General Meeting for Trustees, Donors, Sponsors and contributing members of community.In addition,
the programme further includes doing extra classes every Saturdays for Matriculants and visits to our bursary beneficiaries in their
tertiary educational institutions. The report also covers the current status of the finances of the trust, office administration, donor/
membership and the state of our board of trustees.
2. Vision , Mission and Objectives
Our vision is to create the fountain of hope, inspiration and success for the dreams of the Sabie youth and community.
Our mission is to provide a one stop solution for educational challenges and promote education as a key priority in life.
Our main objective is to provide financial assistance to learners from less affording and poor backgrounds that pass their Matric
with Bachelors to further their Tertiary education studies in South Africa. Not only do we concern ourselves with financial assistance
to needy learners, but we also intend to resolve all educational challenges that engulf our community. Other objectives of our
trust are as follows:
• Promote schooling and education in Sabie through various initiatives and programmes;
• Provide information and knowledge on career paths and education;
• Create a network for dialogue amongst the youth and community at large;
• Provide mentorship programmes for the youth;
• Facilitate job opportunities after completion of tertiary education;
3. ORgANISATIONAL STATUS qUO
• Office Administration
Our trust aims to have a fully-fledged operational office as soon as possible. Due to lack of funding and resources the trust cur-
rently operates on a part time basis. The makeshift office is located in Simile Township at one of our unemployed volunteer’s
home. This office is managed by some of our unemployed youth in collaboration with the trustees and some volunteers.
Our trust has identified the need to have following committees to execute some of its functions:
• Finance
• Events management
• Learner and Student development
• Fundraising
• Marketing and Communications
Due to lack of capacity and resources, some of the above committees remain largely abstract and not operational. We how-
ever call all volunteers to assist with any of the above-mentioned on a daily basis.
The website of the trust was established in April 2013 and still in operation. The name of the website is www.impumelelotrust.co.za
and was renewed for a further 1 year of operation through the contribution of trustees. There is need to have a dedicated person
to manage the website as the current manager operates per request and on part time basis. It would be better if the website is
managed by our unemployed youth so that they can develop working skills.
Our trust has a Facebook page and it has been observed that only a handful of the members contribute and participate in the
page. Just like the website, the page also needs to be given attention and managed on a full time basis
• Funding
The source of funding of our trust is basically from the following streams of funding:
• Monthly individual contributions from Sabie community members
• Monthly contributions from trustees
• Monthly individual contributions from other South African communities
• Interested companies and organisations
• Donations
• Fundraising activities
• Donor / Membership/Volunteerism
Membership recruitment is still work in progress and the number of contributors can be identified in the financial report which is
part of this document. The Sabie office will be embarking on an outdoor monthly campaign to recruit for members and donors.
Membership forms have been designed and we hope that they will be complemented by membership cards which will be
designed and secured in early 2015. Volunteers are further called to assist with the design and procurement of the cards.
• Financial aid recipients
In spite of the minimal donations and contributions we have received thus far, Our Trust is currently partially funding two learners
from Sabie since the commencement of the 2014 Academic year. The learners matriculated in 2013.The learners are studying
in the fields of Geology and Electrical Engineering in the University of the North and Tshwane University of Technology respectively.
Our partial funding was not taken direct from the coffers of the account but was rather personal contribution from the trustees
and other members .The form of funding that has been contributed so far for both the students was registration fees for the stu-
dent in Witbank and transport fees. Textbooks were bought for University of Limpopo student and ongoing assistance with grocery
and transport allowance was also provided when a need arose.
Some of the funding that the learners have received was through the National Financial Aid Scheme. As a Trust we further provide
moral and mentoring support to our learners on an ongoing basis. This would be further complemented by campus visits to the
students in in the new academic year of 2015.
We hope that our enrolment numbers would increase in the coming years and such would be dependent on our funding
streams.

and career guides were given to learners. The trust also provided its own career information booklet in A4 format.This booklet still
needs some improvement and it is hoped that volunteers will come forth to solidify this important piece of work. At this juncture,
we only have Ms Tshidi Makhubedu who is driving the compilation of the booklet and additional hands and resources will be
needed in future.
