I appeal once again to the entire medical fraternity to be sensitive to the fact that documentation of what all you do, in the correct content and format is important. I am convinced that all our doctors, Nurses and paramedical have legal responsibility to provide timely medical service and document the care given. In the eyes of law, all undocumented effort towards patient care is as good as not done. Computerization is an easy tool for you to record all your efforts. We need to use computer in all spheres of data management.

I take this opportunity to thank to all the staffs, colleague and well wishers for their support. The sports and cultural club of Swami Dayanand Hospital has been doing remarkable social engineering exercise year after year they have been organizing annual sports and social events. They are active in ensuring the staffs, who retire from service, are given memorable send off my thanks are due to them.

The Team work of hospital staff, constructive criticism from health care seekers, encouragement and the support of the public representatives will help Swami Dayanand Hospital to flourish and render good care.

As MS of the hospital, I shall continue to the very best to maximize my contribution in “Life Care Management System.”

Once again the staffs in SDN Hospital have delivered safe high quality patient care

despite increase demand on services and very tight resources. Hospital personnel are commanded for their front line care of sick patient compensating for the consequences of inadequate resources and infrastructure. Excellence in patient care continued to be the primary focus of SDN Hospital. It has 370 Beds and provided treatment for 27298 inpatients, 11791 day care patients and 685632 outdoor patients.

Another significant mile stone was the starting of DNB Course in our hospital with much credit goes to our dynamic MS Dr. M.L.Jaipal and Dr. S.S.Bisht DNB Coordinator.

Finally we would like to thank over hospital Doctors, Nurses, Technical and paramedical staff for their valuable and ongoing commitment for patient care. Sulabh International play a crucial role in cleanliness of the hospital. Our hospital awarded 8th position out of 36 hospitals in Delhi under Kayakalp programme implemented by the GNCTD. STAFF LAYOUT:

The department of Orthopedics is one of the busiest in the hospital. At present there are four senior medical officers in the department. Amongst them, three have post graduate degree in Orthopedics. There is one specialist on contract basis, six senior residents and one junior resident in the department. At present there are five sanctioned posts of plaster assistant and one post of orthopedic technician. However, there is only one Ortho technician working against these posts.

INFRASTRUCTURE:

We have a well equipped operation theater complex where almost all varieties of orthopedic surgeries are conducted. The department possesses an operating arthroscopic set complete with monitor, shaving system, etc. with pneumatically powered drill and saw system, two image intensifiers and other orthopedic instruments. With this infrastructure, all kinds of modern orthopedic surgeries are being conducted here. In the past one year, the orthopedic department has rendered invaluable services to the multitude of attending patients. In addition to the routine and common orthopedic operations we have done all kinds of surgeries including arthroscopic surgeries for knee and shoulder, total joint replacement of hips and knees, spinal surgeries for prolapsed intervertebral disc, fixation and fusion of the spine and other surgeries as well. Reconstructive surgeries for bone tumors are also being conducted here.

WORK STATISTICS:

In the year 2016, we have performed more than 327 major and 635 minor surgeries which include cases done in the minor OT and OPD and closed reduction of fracture in the orthopedic OPD. In addition to this we have administered about 865 intra-auricular Hydrocortisone injections, applied more than 11565 plasters and removed about 7660 plasters in 2016. In addition to the routine cases all emergency cases are handled too. Round the clock emergency services are being provided. About 3500 plasters have been applied in the casualty department in the past year. Many emergency cases which had

to be referred to other hospitals earlier due to lack of emergency facilities are being handled now. Many emergency procedures which include closed reduction, open reduction and internal fixation of fractures, drainage of bone and joint abscesses, etc. have been done in the past year. The orthopedic OPD is one of the heaviest amongst all with approximately 138 patients being catered to daily. Even on Wednesdays, on which surgeries are performed, OPD is being run. Minor cases are performed on OPD basis in the minor OT in the OPD. Also many closed reduction under anesthesia are performed in OPD itself. Regular CTEV clinic run on every Friday in the OPD, whereby about 750 CTEV plasters have been applied. Free camps for bone mineral density assessment of patients are also done frequently.

ACADEMIC:

On the academic front, the department is in the process of initiation of DNB programme to train

aspiring orthopedic surgeons and the application for the same has been duly submitted. Regular update of

knowledge for the faculty and residents through CME's and conferences are also encouraged.

Thalaseemia Project report for Jan-16 to Dec-16

Thalaseemia screening was introduced 4-5 year back when it was being done mainly by nestroft reagent but since it

was not cost effective and its shelf life was also less, gradually it is being replaced by CBC method. Hence

autoanalyzers were purchased and lab technicians were trained in this method. Following are the centers under

EDMC where the screening was being done by nestroft method, because of the unavailability of the reagent these

centers are diverting their patients to nearby major hospitals and centers where autoanalyzer is available and the

screening done by CBC method.

Information Systems (HIS) are “designed to improve the quality and management of

clinical care and hospital health care management in the areas of HIS System installed in S.D.N. Hospital by WIPRO info Tech Ltd in the year 2005-06. Director I.T. has been very supportive and helping as coordinator to the inputs, processor and monitoring of output.

Hospital clinical process analysis and activity-based costing.” Improved patient care, cost

control and security are possible benefits of implementing such systems. However, the implementation of hospital management information systems must be accompanied by significant planning on the part of management to maximize results.

There are many benefits of hospital management information systems. Properly

implemented HIS can improve quality of patient care by increasing the timeliness and accuracy of records and administrative information. HIS provides simplified access to patient records and other administrative information for those who need it. It also sets a standard for patient care, making it more consistent across the board. In many cases, patients can also use the system to better educate themselves about their diseases and conditions as well as treatments and outcomes.
