Frightened, alone and confused. For abused and neglected children in Butler County, this is their daily life. Locally, there are over 2,000 children needing protection. Many of them, 500 in number, were removed from their unsafe homes or from parents who could not or would not properly care for them. Many children had witnessed drug abuse, experienced violence and were often left with no supervision in unsafe homes. Many vulnerable to more abuse and placed in foster care, moving from home to home and school to school. Statistics show that a child will change placements 3 times during the nearly 2 years spent in foster care. Extremely unsettling. Imagine their struggles – Jenna, a quiet teenager, was beaten as she bravely tried to protect her younger sister from her drunken, enraged stepfather. Willow, a 5 year old little girl left alone overnight who wandered outside until neighbors heard her cries. Mason, a premature tiny baby boy born addicted to opiates and heroin. All of them innocent, feeling lost, in need of healing. But children with a CASA volunteer are different. A CASA is a community volunteer – a Court Appointed Special Advocate - trained to speak up for the best interests of a child, birth to 18 years of age, who has been abused, neglected or abandoned. A CASA volunteer can restore a child’s hope. Children with CASA volunteers fare much better than those without a CASA. A child with a CASA volunteer… Is safer, less likely to be abused while in the system. Receives more services to heal from their trauma. Is on track academically and does better in school. Leaves the foster care system sooner. Ends up in a safe, permanent home quicker. In 2015 and for the past 27 years, PARACHUTE: Butler County CASA has provided quality advocacy for abused children. We deliver this lifesaving advocacy with dedicated CASA volunteers, volunteer board members, 4 staff and a concerned community including YOU - our supporter. Our goal is to reach all hurting children in need of healing and security. We want all children to achieve their dream of being safe, being loved and to grow up in a nurturing, forever home. With your help, we can protect and speak up for these children. Our outcome measures show that CASA works – Just ask Jenna, Willow and Mason! Frightened, alone and confused. For abused and neglected children in Butler County, this is their daily life. Locally,

there are over 2,000 children needing protection. Many of them, 500 in number, were removed from their unsafe

homes or from parents who could not or would not properly care for them. Many children had witnessed drug

abuse, experienced violence and were often left with no supervision in unsafe homes. Many vulnerable to more

abuse and placed in foster care, moving from home to home and school to school. Statistics show that a child

will change placements 3 times during the nearly 2 years spent in foster care. Extremely unsettling. Imagine their

struggles –

Jenna, a quiet teenager, was beaten as she bravely tried to protect her younger sister from her drunken,

enraged stepfather.

A CASA is a community volunteer – a Court Appointed Special

Advocate - trained to speak up for the best interests of a child, birth to 18 years of age, who has been abused,

neglected or abandoned. A CASA volunteer can restore a child’s hope.

Children with CASA volunteers fare much better than those without a CASA. A child with a CASA volunteer…

Is safer, less likely to be abused while in the system.

Receives more services to heal from their trauma.

Is on track academically and does better in school.

Leaves the foster care system sooner.

Ends up in a safe, permanent home quicker.

In 2015 and for the past 27 years, PARACHUTE: Butler County CASA has provided quality advocacy for abused

children. We deliver this lifesaving advocacy with dedicated CASA volunteers, volunteer board members, 4 staff

and a concerned community including YOU - our supporter.

Our goal is to reach all hurting children in need of healing and security. We want all children to achieve their

dream of being safe, being loved and to grow up in a nurturing, forever home. With your help, we can protect

and speak up for these children. Our outcome measures show that CASA works – Just ask Jenna, Willow and

Mason! THANK YOU for helping improve the lives of children.

Raise Our Voices Breakfast

On September 15, 2015 PARACHUTE

hosted its 3rd Annual “Raise Our Voices”

breakfast to speak up for the abused and

neglected children of Butler County.

Rhonda Brown, PARACHUTE Board President and Chris Schultz,

Executive Director, provided opening remarks, while Judge

Kathleen D. Romans was the keynote speaker. Judge Romans

shared the story “Shaping Lives for A Lifetime”, written by Judge

David Niehaus, co-founder of PARACHUTE. We recognized

CASA volunteers, PARACHUTE board members, and others who

believe that all children deserve to be free from abuse and live

in safe, permanent, and loving homes.

John Kirsch, CPA/Managing Director of Kirsch CPA Group,

provided the commitment request to encourage those in

attendance to make a yearly pledge to PARACHUTE through the

Friends of Children Society giving program. With support of

concerned citizens and community partners working together -

WE can CHANGE the life of a child.

Accomplishments

New CASA Volunteers – Trained 18 new advocates, bringing the total number of trained CASA volunteers,

since 1988, to 488 CASA volunteers.

Active CASA Volunteers – Supervised 74 active CASA volunteers, who donated 4,257 hours serving children.

Children served – 188 abused and neglected children in Butler County. Since 1988, our CASA volunteers have

advocated for nearly 2,000 children, attended 5,952 court hearings, and donated over 147,050 hours of service.

Board member honored – PARACHUTE Board President, Rhonda Brown, honored as an Unsung Hero by the

Journal News for her volunteer service to PARACHUTE and other non-profits groups in Butler County.

Bonnie Tromans marks a milestone serving as CASA volunteer for 20 years!

PARACHUTE: Butler County CASA would not exist without our wonderful volunteers. Bonnie Tromans has served as a

CASA volunteer for 20 years! She enrolled in volunteer training, Fall 1994, and has been hard at work advocating for

the abused children of Butler County ever since – 11 families and 26 children to date. Bonnie has been a tireless

advocate, sometimes traveling away from home to places like Cleveland and Chicago, to best serve her CASA

children. In 2001, Bonnie was awarded the CASA Volunteer of the Year Award by The Ohio CASA Association.

Bonnie is also a dedicated volunteer in other areas of the community - church, local school, and other civic

organizations. She is a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and values the close bonds she shares with each

family member. We congratulate Bonnie on this very special anniversary and thank her for her volunteer service to

the abused and neglected children in our community.

The Let’s Make Today Special program has been funded by the

Community Foundation of West Chester Youth in Philanthropy Fund, Youth Philanthropy Committee of the Hamilton

Community Foundation, and the Youth Advisory Council of the Middletown Community Foundation. This youth

supported project purchases meal gift cards which are given to our CASA volunteers when they meet with their

CASA child or children to share a meal. Many of these children have rarely set foot inside a restaurant of any kind, so

this is a way to provide them with a special treat and time to feel at ease meeting with their CASA volunteer. One

meal time story in particular was shared with us from CASA volunteer, Julie. “During the winter months dining out

with my CASA child was such a great option for us to talk privately, for her to express herself freely, and enjoy a meal

together.” The little girl told Julie she loved eating breakfast food and was told to her amazement that the nearby

Bob Evans serves breakfast all day and that is where she wanted to go. After eating a large breakfast at 3:00 pm, the

delighted young lady was so grateful for the experience she wrote a short poem to her CASA Julie - “You brought

me sunshine, when I only seen rain. You brought me laughter, when I only felt pain.” Thank you Julie. Julie continues

to write, “Now that my CASA child is hopefully with her forever home, we still dine out to stay in touch. The gift card

program has been a great help in reducing my personal costs. Thank you to the community foundations involved

with this wonderful project.

All gifts, large and small, are genuinely appreciated. We pledge to be fiscally responsible to the stakeholders,

transparent in our operations and do our best to serve those children so desperately in need. Your donation

ensures that a helpless child will have a CASA volunteer, a strong voice and hopefully a better future.

Thank you for joining us and being a voice for a child.

Attend CASA 101 – Each year PARACHUTE hosts “CASA 101” which are 1 hour informational

sessions committed to sharing PARACHUTE’s mission and to recruit community volunteers to

become future CASAs. These events are hosted at the CASA office, local libraries, or

community centers throughout Butler County. You will not be asked for a donation.

Become a CASA Volunteer – Speak up for a child in court. Court Appointed Special

Advocates participate in training sessions provided by staff and work directly with local abused

children. For more details contact PARACHUTE at (513)867-5010 or check out the website

www.parachutecasa.org for applications and further information.

Make a Donation – Every donation is so important and assists PARACHUTE in continuing this

lifesaving work for our community. It costs $1,700 to train one new CASA and with more

trained CASA volunteers, we can serve more children. Join our Friends of Children Society to

help PARACHUTE sustain our commitment in providing a voice for the abused and neglected

children in our community or sign up through the PARACHUTE website to become a monthly

donor - www.parachutecasa.org.

Partner with PARACHUTE for a Project – Develop a project that suits your interests or those

of your group: collect school supplies or children’s items, food coupons for a CASA volunteer

to share with a child, donate office supplies to PARACHUTE, have a bake sale or car wash to

raise money, volunteer to help out at the PARACHUTE office for painting or gardening projects,

or stuffing envelopes – call us for more ideas! (513)867-5010.
