Wii Chiiwaakanak is located within the HelenBetty Osborne building, opposite the University’s DuckworthCentre on Ellice Avenue.

The RBC Financial Group’s donation established The RBCLearning Commons and also provided financial awards forthe University’s high school division. The prime focus ofthe Learning Commons is computer-based learning, mentoring, and urban distance education for Aboriginalchildren and adult learners. Also part of Wii Chiiwaakanakis The North West Company Heritage Room, a resourcecentre for reading and discussion, and for visiting displays.

Florence Williams, donating for 36 years

In memory of her first husband, the late Lorne Tomlinson,Florence Williams has been contributing to The CollegiateAccess Fund every year since Lorne Tomlinson’s death in1970. Dean Tomlinson served United College and TheCollegiate for nearly 26 years, first as a teacher and then asDean of The Collegiate.

“Lorne came to think of the students as ‘his kids’,” recallsMrs. Williams. “He celebrated their successes and worriedover their challenges as if they were his own children. Icame to think of The Collegiate and its students as part ofmy own extended family. That is why I continue to supportthe school.” Each year, Florence makes her donation “inloving memory of one of the dearest persons I have everknown” and enjoys hearing about the many success storiesfrom students who benefit from this bursary.
