     • The  financial  audit  for  FYE  June  30,  2016  is  included  as  Appendix  3  in  this  report.

Visitor  Experience    The  Troy  Historic  Village  will  be  a  unique  cultural  destination  that  is  convenient,  accessible,  meaningful,  relevant,  affordable,  and  dynamic.    The  Village  will  become  a  popular  gathering  and  happening  place  for  residents  of  Troy  and  Southeast  Michigan.

    • Regular  public  hours,  Monday  –  Friday,  10:00  am  to  3:00  pm,  and  extended  summer  hours,  July  to  September,  which  included  Saturdays  from  10:00  am  to  2:00  pm  and  Thursday  evening  until  8  pm,  were  offered.  Total  Village  attendance  increased  22  percent  from  last  year  to  28,915  visitors.  Education  program  attendance  though  through  fieldtrips  and  History  to  You  outreach  increased  seven  percent  to  12,972  students,  chaperones,  and  teachers.

     • Generous  financial  support  from  the  Michigan  Humanities  Council,  the  National  Endowment  for

the  Arts,  and  APIA-‐VOTE  MI  supported  THS  and  its  project  partners’  efforts  to  collect  the  personal  immigration  stories  of  Troy  Asian  residents  and  to  celebrate  their  contributions  to  this  community.    The  Many  Stories  One  Heritage  project  included  three  components:

o Twelve  oral  histories  that  documented  the  experiences  of  first  and  second  generation  twentieth  century  Asian  immigrants  were  compiled  through  video  interviews  with  transcriptions.  The  entire  collection  is  accessible  on  the  THV  website.

o Community  events  and  programs  that  highlighted  Indian  and  other  Asian  cultures,  food,  music,  and  dance  were  held  at  the  Village.

o Two  History  Maker  awards  for  Cultural  Diversity  were  presented  at  an  Embracing  Excellence  Dinner  in  May.  These  award  recipients  and  additional  History  Maker  awards  for  Visionary  Thinking,  Health  and  Fitness,  Business  and  Philanthropy,  Environmental  Stewardship,  and  Education  celebrated  the  actions  of  individuals  who  have  made  significant  contributions  to  creative  communities.

Project  planners  Loraine  Campbell  (THV),  Theresa  Tran  (APIA  VOTE-‐MI),  and  Nancy  Morrison  (Troy  Community  Coalition)  co-‐presented    a  session  based  on  the  project  (Oral  History:  A  Tool  for  Social  Action  in  Changing  Communities)  at  the  2016  national  conference    of  the  American  Association  for  State  and  Local  History  (AASLH)  held  in  Detroit  in  September,  2016.

    • The  Village  Pioneer  Garden  was  planted  with  donated  seeds  and  plants  from  Nino  Salvaggio  International  Marketplace  and  was  tended  and  harvested  by  volunteer  Bill  Warren  and  five  Troy  families  with  economic  challenges.  The  families  gained  gardening  experience  and  harvested  fresh  food  for  their  tables.    Many  bushels  of  additional  food  were  donated  to  Forgotten  Harvest  and  Troy  People  Concerned.

    • Troy  Historic  Village  continued  its  annual  collaboration  with  the  Troy  Nature  Center  to  jointly  present  Maple  Syrup  Time.    Over  900  individuals  participated  in  a  new  interpretive  program  developed  by  Village  staff  that  explored  how  cultures  around  the  world  collect  sap  from  different  trees  and  use  it  for  food,  medicine,  and  various  products.  Over  900  people  attended  24  programs  offered  during  the  month-‐long  March  event.

     • The  Troy  Garden  Club  continued  its  volunteer  and  financial  support  of  the  Village.  In  2016  its

members  completed  new  landscaping  beds  in  front  of  the  1927  Township  Hall  and  planted  a  new  butterfly  garden  around  the  WWII  Blue  Star  Mothers  memorial  near  the  Village  entrance.  Eight  hundred  visitors,  vendors,  and  volunteers  attended  the  annual  Garden  Club  Walk  Boutique  in  the  Village.

Public  Awareness    THS  will  establish  region-‐wide  awareness  of  the  Troy  Historic  Village  programs  and  services.

    • THV  interpretive  staff  developed  four  new  engaging  and  interactive  outreach  programs  that  support  social  studies  curriculum  for  elementary  grades.  These  “History  to  You”  (H2U)  outreach  programs  were  piloted  free-‐of-‐charge  in  thirty  Title  1  Oakland  and  Macomb  County  classrooms.  The  programs  received  very  positive  evaluations  and  will  be  made  available  regionally  in  2016/17.  This  project  was  made  possible  by  a  grant  from  the  Philip  and  Elizabeth  Filmer  Memorial  Charitable  Trust.

    • The  THV  Marketing  Team  effectively  used  the  THV  website  and  social  media  platforms  including  Facebook  and  Twitter  to  expand  regional  awareness  of  the  Village  and  participation  in  programs  and  public  events.  Special  events  pages  were  viewed  over  4,000  times.

     • THV  initiated  a  weekly  blog  called  The  Quill.  Village  staff  members  rotate  writing  assignments.

Adequate  Resources    THS  will  maintain  sufficient  financial,  technical,  and  human  resources  to  support  the  operations  and  capital  projects  of  the  Village.

    • The  City  of  Troy  directed  Community  Development  Block  Grant  funds  to  design  and  build  new  ADA-‐compliant  accessibility  ramps  on  the  1927  Township  Hall  and  the  General  Store.

    • Village  events  and  operations  were  supported  by  283  volunteers  who  contributed  8,926  hours  of  their  time,  representing  4.4  full-‐time  equivalent  employees.  Volunteers  included  undergraduate  interns  from  Oakland  University  and  U  of  M  Dearborn  and  two  graduate  student  interns  from  the  Archive  Certification  Program  at  Wayne  State  University.  Court-‐ordered  community  service  volunteers  completed  over  600  hours  of  work  in  the  Village.

     • The  Collections  Report  is  provided  in  Appendix  1.

Organizational  Culture    The  Troy  Historical  Society  and  Board  of  Trustees  will  be  a  governance  organization  dedicated  to  the  preservation  and  growth  of  the  Troy  Historic  Village.    THS  will  improve  the  level  of  expertise  and  performance  of  the  staff  and  Board  members  through  training,  customer  service,  and  community  involvement.

    • The  Building  Operations  Committee  drafted  a  comprehensive  THV  Operations  Guidelines  Manual.  The  completed  document  with  sample  forms  and  appendices  will  be  presented  to  the  Board  of  Trustees  in  early  2017.

    • Representatives  from  the  THS  Board,  THV  staff,  and  volunteer  corps  were  recruited  to  develop  a  new  5-‐year  THS  Strategic  Plan.    THiS  Strateam  was  facilitated  by  Steve  Czerniak,  a  recently  retired  organizational  management  professional.  The  team  will  present  their  draft  document  to  the  Board  of  Trustees  in  2017  for  review,  adoption,  and  implementation.

     • The  Board  Development  Committee  revised  the  informational  packet  for  new  Board  nominees
