Northdown Snooker Club is located in Northdown Road, Cliftonville near Margate on the East Kent coast.

Our staff at Northdown Snooker Club are very friendly and always happy to help and our club provides a welcoming break from the

treadmill of work and stress. We pride ourselves on a relaxed social club atmosphere.

Snooker and pool are among the most affordable sports in the UK with snooker prices from just £3 per table, per hour. Food and drink

is available at very reasonable costs all day, every day.

We have 15 full size snooker tables a private snooker room, fully licenced bar, a lounge area with large screen televisions, comfortable seating, jackpot payout gaming machines and two pool tables.

KCBSA Committee 2015-16

INTER-COUNTY CHAMPIONS!The Kent team won the annual South East Inter County Snooker competition this year. The Kent team pictured left to right was Amrik Cheema, Adam Holmes, Stephen Hartley, Neil Jefferis, Lee Martin and Mick Quinnell. Victoria Snooker Club in Tunbridge Wells kindly hosted the event which is usually contested for by teams from East Sussex, Kent, Surrey and West Sussex.

Unfortunately West Sussex couldn’t get a team together so we decided to adjust the format. It is always a round robin format but this time each team played the others twice to give the players 8 frames each over the day.

We drew 6-6 in our first match with East Sussex but then lost 8-4 to Surrey so at the halfway stage we were 2 points behind East Sussex and 4 behind Surrey. In the second rotation however things turned around. Both Kent and Surrey had convincing 9-3 wins over East Sussex so it came down to the last match between Kent and Surrey to decide the title with Kent needing an 8-4 win or better. An 8-4 win would have meant a single playoff frame and at one stage it was looking likely that would happen but that wasn’t needed in the end as we managed to sneak a 9-3 win to the delight of all the Kent players.

2015-16 KCBSA RESULTS

KENT UNDER 21s25.10.15Riley’s Gillingham Snooker Club

Winner: Ben Sizer

Runner-up: James Addison-May

Unfortunately we only had 2 players

turn up on the day for the Under 21s

competition so straight into the final

were Ben Sizer and James Addison-

May. This was a rematch of last year’s

final but this time the best of 9 frames. Ben took control of the match with some impressive

play and won 5-0 to retain his title with a highest break of 48 on the way.

KENT SNOOKER VETERANS25.10.15Riley’s Gillingham Snooker Club

Winner: Tony Holdstock

Runner-up: Ron Goodwin

In contrast to the Under 21s, the Veterans broke

last year’s record of 18 entrants with 22 turning

up this time. It was great to see lots of faces from

the past returning to the baize and supporting the

competition. Congratulations go to Tony Holdstock

who came out the champion at the end. Tony beat

two time past winner Tony Molineaux, Fred Jarmak

and David Parsons to get to the semi-final. He

then got revenge against John Woolcott who had

beaten him last year before beating Ron Goodwin

2-0 in the final to take the title for the first time.

Tony said he likes a chinese takeaway when he

wins but had been depriving himself recently after

disappointing performances. I’m sure some of the £120 winners prize went towards a very

satisfying meal.

KENT BILLIARDS ‘Archie Wood Trophy’15.11.15Victoria Snooker Club, Tunbridge Wells

Winner: Neil JefferisRunner-up: Andy Phillips

We had 10 entrants for the Billiards this year so we split into two groups of 5 and ran a Round Robin competition with the top 2 in each group qualifying for the semi-finals. Each game was played over 45 minutes. Group 1 saw defending champion Andy Phillips top the group winning all of his games including beating Neil Jefferis who managed to win his other 3 games to finish as group runner-up.

Group 2 was topped by Paul Murphy with Trevor Gibb finishing runner-up after both players had won 3 out of 4 games but Paul had scored more points. So the semi-finals put Andy against Trevor and Paul against Neil. Andy put together a string of 40+ breaks and a 52 to beat Trevor by 217 to 76. Neil overcame a strong start from Paul and finishing with a 38 break managed to win 198 to 89.

In the final it was revenge for Neil as Andy struggled to keep his scoring run going and Neil, with breaks of 36 and 42, managed to win by 183 to 95 to claim the title for the second time in 3 years and the £100 winner’s prize. Andy got £50 for his efforts.

KENT SNOOKER PAIRS6.12.15Welling Snooker Club

Another record breaking entry for one of our one day competitions as 21 pairs turned up at Welling Snooker Club. With such a good entry we had to run the event as a knockout tournament with each match the best of three frames. The top half of the draw saw Stephen Hartley and Lee Martin get through to the final without dropping a frame. Alex Swatton and Jamie Dunlop travelled up from Folkestone and also made it through to the final which was best of five frames. Stephen and Lee started strongest and took the first two frames before Alex and Jamie fought back taking the third. It looked like they would level the match as they built a good lead in the fourth but Stephen and Lee managed to claw that lead back and pinched the frame on the black. Their 3-1 win gives them the Pairs title at their first attempt.

Because we had plenty of entries we were also able to run a plate competition for any pair that lost their first match. Welling club owner John Yuen and his partner Nick Skinner won this beating Spencer Flowers and Finlay Palmer 2-1 in the final.

Eight teams turned up on the day so we split into two

groups of four and ran a Round Robin. In Group 1 last

year’s champions, Stone Street, were drawn against Swale, Victoria and The Committee whilst group 2 had two time

past champions, The Dreamteam, against Petts Wood, Mid Life Crisis and Ightham.

Group 1 was very close but both The Committee and Victoria beat Stone

Street and Swale 4-2 and when The Committee took a 4-1 lead against

Victoria in the final group match that was enough to put them through

to the semis as group winners with Victoria going through as runners up.

Group 2 was even closer. The first two rounds saw all four matches finish

tied 3-3. The last round put Ightham against The Dreamteam and Mid

Life Crisis against Petts Wood. It looked likely that these would both

be 3-3 giving the organizers a real headache but Spencer Flowers from

Ightham managed to pinch the last frame with a great long final black. Mid Life Crisis also managed a 4-2 win so they

tied at the top of the group with Ightham but went through as winners on the toss of a coin.

So the semi-finals saw Mid Life Crisis play Victoria and The Committee taking on Ightham. Mid Life Crisis beat Victoria

4-2 but the second semi finished 3-3 so a deciding frame had to be played. Neil Jefferis played for the Committee

and Wayne Fuller played for Ightham. It was a tense frame and with some helpful run of the ball including a decisive

snooker on the final brown, Neil came through as the winner.

The final saw Neil play John Meaney, Finlay Palmer play Adam Holmes and Adrian Frisby play Mick Quinnell and it

proved to be The Committee’s day as Neil squeezed home 2-0, Finlay fought back to draw 1-1 after Adam had made

a 55 break in the first and Adrian only needed to play the one frame as he won his first to give The Committee a 4-1

lead and the title for the second time.

KENT UNDER 16s ‘Summers Cup’24.4.16Welling Snooker Club, Welling

Winner: Katie Nguyen (£20) Runner-up: Brandon Nguyen (£10)

3 entries: Katie Nguyen (15), Brandon Nguyen (11), Kieren Brackell (14)

Format: Round Robin, all matches best of 3.

Katie kicked off the match against Keiren very confidently, securing the first frame 44-16. Kieren fought back extremely well in the second and kept his nerve by potting the final black to win the frame 41-46. Katie, undeterred, concentrated well in the decider to forge an unassailable lead, taking the final frame 53-5 to win 2-1

2015 Champion Brandon started the defence of his title with a comfortable 50-9 win in the first frame. In the second, Kieren fought admirably before Brandon pressed ahead, winning 45-15 and win two nil.

Both Brandon and Katie started the match with the knowledge that the winner would be crowned champion. Katie had the better start winning a close, tense first frame, 42-50. The second frame was equally nip and tuck before Katie pressed home her advantage and took the frame, and the title, 33-45 with a 2-0 victory.

Congratulations to Katie for a strong and consistent performance to win the title in her final year before turning 16. Katie also becomes Kent’s first ever female champion!

again and with a full house of 64

runners just proving you really

need to get your entry in early

doors if you want to take part.

The top half of the draw saw

one of our long time supporters

Alan Bailey who actually won

this event in 1982 and he rolled back the years as he dispatched Nathan Moore and Ryan Miskin

before going out to James Teubler. Two time winner Matt Howard strolled through to the quarters

where he beat two time winner Amrik Cheema three frames to one.

Meanwhile our Treasurer, Neil Jefferis, battled through the rounds in a

series of epic comebacks. He was one ball away from losing to Scott Bell

in round two and needed a snooker on the blue against Adam Holmes in

round three and looked down and out against Matt Howard in the semis

before grinding out a victory 3-2 to make it his first Kent Amateur final.

Meanwhile the bottom half of the draw saw defending champion Phil

O’Kane sneak in by way of being one of the reserves. He started well by

beating Steve Whybrow in the first round and Matt Simpson in round

two before succumbing to Steve Hartley 3-2 in round three. Steve Crowley made an appearance

once again despite not practicing very often and he did very well before he eventually lost to Sean

Halligan in the semi final.

So the final was Sean v Neil but because of the 2am start we all agreed to play best of three.

Halligan played very solidly through the whole match as he had done the whole tournament and he

was looking to succeed the 81 break he made in round two against Rob Molinari. He really didn’t

give Jefferis too many chances and his consistency saw him

run out the victor two nil and take £300 for the win and an

extra tenner for his high break of

the day. The final ball was potted

at 2.46am.

Earlier in the evening the

Plate competition was running

concurrently for the first game

losers and saw seasoned campaigner Steve Wagon take the spoils as he

beat our Under 21 champion, Ben Sizer two frames to nil.

KENT COUNTY CUP20.2.16Northdown Snooker Club, Margate

The Kent County Cup took place last Sunday at Northdown Snooker Club in Margate. We had 53 entries before the day and as has hopefully been noticed we had decided that in order to get the day finished at a reasonable hour we were going to make the first round best of 3 frames only. Surprisingly there were 11 no shows so we had 42 players in the end and to everyone’s joy we were able to revert back to the best of 5 frame format throughout the day.

The top half of the draw saw the newly crowned Amateur champion, Sean Halligan breeze through to the quarter finals without dropping a frame. He then beat Andy Sage by 3 frames to 1 to get to the semi-final. There he met Charlie Walters who had beaten past champion Ryan Causton in the second round. James Addison-May had made a 70 break in his first match and was waiting hopefully to see if that would stand as the highest of the day but Charlie beat it with a 76 in his quarter final victory over Tony Holdstock. His form wasn’t quite good enough though in the end as Sean played a solid game and won the semi-final 3-1 to make it to his second big final on the trot.

Meanwhile the bottom half of the draw was being steam-rollered by Mark Cackett. His first round match against Spencer Flowers was last on and first off as he won in about 30 minutes. In the semi-final though he came up against Lee Martin who had beaten last year’s champion, John Parkin in the 3rd round. This turned out to be a really tight match and Mark won 3 black ball games to eventually triumph 3-2.

In the final Mark continued his flowing form. It wasn’t to be a dream double for Sean this time as Mark ran out a 3-0 winner to get his name on the trophy for a 3rd time. He also picked up the £200 winner’s prize whilst Sean took home £100.

The plate competition saw a welcome turn around in fortunes for Spencer Flowers (pictured right) after his quick exit from the main competition. He found some form and managed to win without losing a frame, beating Wayne Fuller 2-0 in the final.

One final piece of news to announce is that Tony Holdstock did just enough to hold off Neil Jefferis and take the Player of the Year award. Tony has played in more events than anyone else this year and thoroughly deserves the title.
