BangladeshThis project is to establish a sustainable Disaster Management Network to coordinate private sector, civil society, and local government as well as to build up capacity in disaster-prone areas of Bangladesh. The main objectives of this project are: 1) to improve capacity for disaster response at the community level; 2) establish multi-sectoral disaster response focal points; 3) establish emergency disaster management coordination centers at the national and divisional levels; and 4) build international networks for disaster response and disseminate good practices. A-PAD Bangladesh provided multi-sectoral t r a i n i n g , w o r k s h o p s a n d s e m i n a r s i n f o u r d i v i s i o n a l disaster-prone areas to build disaster management capacity.

Capacity Building Project for the Establishment and Sustainable Management of a Multi-Sector Platform for Disaster Management in Bangladesh(17 January 2020 – 16 January 2021)

This emergency response intervention aims to address emergency relief and health needs of the affected families by providing aliment and non-aliment items. A-PAD Bangladesh chose Golachipa Upazila, Patuakhali District and Sadar Upazila, Bagerhat District as the direct beneficiaries of the distribution of emergency food packs, plast ic tarpaul in (T irpal ) for emergency house roof repair, and ORS powder to combat diarrhea / dehydration. Both are coastal communities that were along the destructive path of Amphan where many Boro rice paddy fields, fish farms, and houses were damaged.

In response to COVID-19, ARROWS delivered masks and other medical supplies, and dispatched medical professionals including doctors and nurses to hospitals and welfare institutions.

ARROWS (Airborne Rescue & Relief Operations with Search) Response to COVID-19

In response to the heavy rain in Kyushu in July 2020, SEMA provided clothes, beverages, sanitary items, and rubbing alcohol. ARROWS also mobilized medical and rescue teams, pilots, rescue dogs, helicopters and vehicles to provide support in the disaster area.

Emergency Response to the Heavy Rain in Kyushu by SEMA (Social Emergency Management Alliance) & ARROWS

A-PAD Japan implemented a project to provide personal hygiene kits at evacuation centers across Japan. The project aims to improve the hygiene environment and prevent further casualties from infectious diseases in disaster settings.

Hygiene Kit Project (Distribution of Hygiene Kits to Prevent Infections in Evacuation Centers)

The main objectives of this project include strengthening a multi-sector network for disaster response and establishing a disaster network model in the two target provinces to facilitate provincial-level disaster management cooperation.

Project for Strengthening Disaster Management and Response Capacities by Enhancing Multi-Sectoral Cooperation in Indonesia (March,2020 - June, 2021)

This project aims to support the basic needs of those affected by the West Sulawesi earthquake. This project provided meals to evacuation centers (1,000 meals), water supply support (3,200 people), installation of a hand-washing area (5 units), and mask and sanitizer distribution (500people) in Mamuju and Majene.

West Sulawesi Earthquake Emergency Response 2021 (February 1, 2020 - March 31, 2021)

This project aims to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by providing masks and liquid soap. Additionally, this project will provide educational activities and a health campaign to communities for their self-care in the Serang District of Banten Province.

COVID 19 Emergency Response in Banten Provinceand West Java Province(October 26, 2020- December 20, 2020)

This proposed emergency response intervention aims to contribute in addressing water needs of the affected families by providing safe water containers and installation of water pipeline.

Typhoon Kammuri “Tisoy” Emergency Response in Bicol (December 2019- July 2020)

This project aims to contribute in the ongoing efforts of local partners in addressing the needs of the COVID- 19 frontline workers and families economically displaced by the community quarantine in selected areas.

Novel Corona Virus (COVID-19 ) Emergency Response(April - June 2020)

This emergency response and early recovery intervention aims to contribute in addressing the basic need and livelihood of the most affected families in Bicol in the aftermath of Super Typhoon Goni.

Super Typhoon Goni “Rolly” Emergency Responsein Bicol (November 2020- May 2021)

Phillipines

A-PAD Korea partnered with local restaurant owners to prepare hot meals for children’s centers around Daegu as almost all the restaurants in Daegu were closed due to the lockdown. The effort also brought economic relief to business owners struggling to make it through the shutdown.

Provision of 200 Meals Per Day at Children’s Centers (COVID-19)

A-PAD Korea distributed emergency relief items to 1,000 households. The relief items included toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap) and cleaning supplies (detergent, towels, sponges) which were stored in case of emergency. Hot meals and bath services were also provided for the victims.

Sri LankaMOFA Project – Promotion of Private Public Partnership and Capacity Building Project for Emergency Responses for Disaster Risk Reduction in Sri Lanka

Emergency ResponseCOVID-19 (January 2020 – May 2021)

#InThisTogether: The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) partnered with A-PAD Sri Lanka in responding to COVID-19 pandemic, in terms of medical and non-medical capacities since the inception of the first wave, leading onto the third. Several sub activities were carried out in partnership with state ministries, Disaster Management Centre and the Ministry of Health.

#TogetherWeRise:A-PAD International extended its support to Sri Lanka in COVID-19 resistance efforts via provisioning of masks, sanitizer pedals, disinfectant sprays etc to be utilized by frontline workers.

Meals that Heal:Following the first lockdown in Sri Lanka, Union Assurance PLC, partnered with A-PAD Sri Lanka in providing basic rations to families who were living below the poverty line and could not engage in economic activities due to the stringent travel restrictions. Leading into the third wave, amidst the South West Monsoonal floods in 2021, this initiative was further extended in providing cooked meals to families affected by the intersecting disaster.

Reviving Education:Along with the COVID-19 outbreak and restrictions ins Sri Lanka, schools had to close up intermittently, resorting to distance learning. This being a luxury to most in the urban areas of the country, the interiors could not adapt to this change immediately due to lack of resources, connectivity issues and economic survivability. HSBC and Global Giving crowd funding platforms partnered with A-PAD SL in providing past paper packs to children sitting for national examinations such as, Grade 05 Scholarships, GCE Ordinary Level (O/L) and GCE Advanced Level (A/L).

Yuletide Magic:In view of Christmas 2020, HSBC bank and A-PAD SL together organized an outreach to support the families of Project Phoenix v i a s e a s o n a l r a t i o n h a m p e r a l o n g w i t h a h e a l t h a n d hygiene/COVID-19 wellness packs. Due to the pandemic situation and their inability to gain access to basic essentials, called for the partnership to engage in this initiative in Colombo, Negombo and Batticaloa Districts.

Project Phoenix:Following the Easter Sunday Attacks of 2019 in Sri Lanka, A-PAD SL entered a tri-partite partnership with HSBC and Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement in Sri Lanka in supporting the families impacted. The three-year project started off as emergency response and is now transitioning towards the early recovery segment.
