OurMission
Is to mobilize communities of
congregations topartner with social
service agencies to end homelessness - one
family at a time
Dear friends,
Change is commonly defined as to make or become different. I’m not sure there is a more appropriate word to describe Family Promise over the last 12 months than change. We made positive changes to our board, executive leadership, staff, programming, and community partnerships. We focused on becoming more efficient and effective in addition to pushing ourselves further than ever before. We stood by our shared mission and strived to build our brand throughout the community and become an industry leader for ending homelessness.
A significant change in 2017 was the relocation of our offices and SaltLight Center. We love being more visible in the community and closer to the offices of our community partners.
Despite all of our efforts and progress, we still face a monumental task. An estimated 8,000 people remain homeless in Gwinnett County. Some live out in the elements, some in their cars, others in extended stay hotels and motels that have become blights to our community.
That estimate reflects almost 7% of the 118,000 Gwinnett County residents living in poverty in Gwinnett County. That means that more than 100,000 people in Gwinnett County are one missed paycheck or new bill away from becoming potentially homeless. The situation has reached a tipping point, and it’s time for bold leadership and action.
With new staff in 2017, we focused on strengthening our core programs of offering emergency shelter, homeless recovery, and aftercare. The successes shared in this report are only possible with the continued commitment of our volunteers, congregations, and community partners.
Here’s to all that was accomplished in 2017 and all the parents and children who will be served in the future as we work together to end homelessness, one family at a time.
Thanks,
Lakeisha Jones
