marked the fifth year of an expanded mandate for the Golf Canada Foundation, where we added Junior Golf, Women’s Golf and High Performance Golf in addition to Collegiate Golf as our primary areas of focus. Throughout the year, we achieved major milestones in each of these areas: • Over $5 million raised for golf programs in Canada since 2012 • Anne-Catherine Tanguay and Corey Conners graduated from the Young Pro program to the LPGA Tour and PGA TOUR respectively, joining fellow Young Pro graduates Brooke Henderson and Mackenzie Hughes at the game’s highest levels • A new partnership formed with Brooke Henderson and the Henderson Family Foundation around the CP Women’s Open • An all-time high of 40 colleges and universities participating in the grant matching program • More than 34,000 children engaged in junior golf programs • Expanded support from more than 4,000 donors across Canada

I am very proud of how far the Foundation has come. It’s grown from a small, dedicated group of volunteers to a truly national platform with over 4,000 donors, partnerships with four provinces, a signature major donor

event, and collaboration with one of Canada’s brightest stars in all of sport, Brooke Henderson.

Thank you to our partners at RBC, Canadian Pacific, Citi Canada, ClubLink, Brooke Henderson and the entire Henderson family as well as all our Trustees for the significant contribution they’ve made to our success in 2017.

To my fellow directors, thank you for your ongoing dedication to our sport and for your efforts and enthusiasm for the game of golf which makes a difference every year to every player.

2017 was a banner year for the Foundation, expanding both in fundraising and operations. Throughout the year, we increased grassroots awareness and fundraising efforts, while continuing our strategic focus on high quality events unique to Canadian golf.

Our flagship initiatve, the Trustee Program, continues to grow with almost 80 major gift donors. This is complemented by the Trustee Cup, a new donor-centred event that celebrates the leaders in Canadian golf philanthropy. We are fortunate and very grateful to have support from some of the most renowned golf clubs in Canada, adding Memphrémagog this year to our list that already includes Öviinbyrd and Cabot Links.

To increase stewardship and support for all of our donors, the Foundation increased its bench strength and welcomed Joelle Efford to the newly created role of Director of Development and Events. Furthermore, we were pleased to have a previous scholarship recipient and UBC golf team member, Eunice Hong, as our summer intern.

This year was marked by a number of exceptional events that resulted in tremendous profile for the Foundation and funds raised for our golfers. I would like to thank Mr. Jean C. Monty and Mr. Paul Desmarais Jr. for hosting the Trustee Cup at Memphrémagog; the Royal Montreal Golf Club for hosting a stellar Team Canada Media Day; the Ottawa Hunt & Country Club for hosting our Brooke & Friends Pro-Am; Glen Abbey Golf Club for our best Canada Day Pro-Am yet; and Angus Glen Golf Club for supporting our women’s golf events for the fourth straight year.

Much appreciation goes to Executive Director Ian Gibson and President Mike Jackson of the Canadian Seniors Golf Association, whose members have raised over $100,000 to benefit student golfers and junior programs.

Finally, a resounding thank you to all of our partners and donors who have supported the Foundation in 2017 and

helped make this year one of growth and expansion.

PRO-AM – RBC CANADIAN OPEN

2017 marked the fifth year for the Golf Canada Foundation Pro-Am on the Monday of the RBC Canadian Open, July 24th, at Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville, Ont. The objective of the Pro-Am is to create awareness and raise funds for Foundation initiatives, in particular for Team Canada and the Young Pro Program. This year’s Pro-Am featured Team RBC players Graham DeLaet, David Hearn and Adam Hadwin along with celebrities Thurman Thomas and Patrick Chan, for a total of 32 foursomes for the day. New this year, the Foundation initiated an electronic 50/50 draw during the RBC Canadian Open to further raise funds with

a concentration on Junior golf programs. Over $200,000 was raised for golf initiatives across Canada.

PLAY LIKE THE PROSIn its third year, the Foundation’s Play Like the Pros event gave teams the opportunity to play the RBC Canadian Open host venue under tournament conditions on the Monday after the final round. This year’s event saw 32 groups compete for top prizes and bragging rights while raising $34,000 for Junior Golf programs.

TRUSTEE CUPOn September 18, 2017 the Golf Canada Foundation launched a signature event for major

donors, the Trustee Cup, an annual competition among long-standing and new major gift donors to the Foundation. The event brings together some of the most influential stakeholders in golf, to honour individuals who have made a significant impact on the sport, and celebrate donors who have made a difference by giving back. The inaugural event was hosted by Mr. Jean C. Monty at Memphrémagog Golf Club in Québec, providing a memorable kick off to the Cup which raised over $200,000 for the Young Pro Program. The long-term goal of the Trustee Cup is to travel to the most prestigious courses across Canada.

THE SUMMER SWINGThe fifth annual Summer Swing women’s event, hosted at Angus Glen Golf Club aimed to get more women involved in golf. The event features golf clinics, vendors, networking, hospitality and more. Highlights included motivational speaker and golf entertainer Lisa Longball who provided driving clinics, along with two golf stations with local professionals. More than 150 guests raised over $50,000 for girls and women’s golf initiatives.

WORLD JUNIOR GIRLS - $50,000 2017 was the fourth year of the World Junior Girls Championship, held this year from September 24-29 at The Marshes Golf Club in Ottawa, Ontario. The field grew to 20 teams arriving from 19 countries, an expansion of 12 additional players from the previous year. We congratulate Spain on earning their first team title by defeating Korea in a playoff. The field for this year’s championship was world class propelling it to an ‘A’ ranked event on the Women’s World Amateur Golf Ranking.

TEAM CANADA YOUNG PRO PROGRAM - $25,000The Women’s Fund approved $25,000 to go directly towards matching donations to support a team of young professionals. The primary focus is to help improve

the playing ability of select players once they turn pro by overcoming hurdles faced in coaching, managing their careers, equipment, sport science and training. In 2017 one young woman was added to the Young Pro program. This year’s recipients were Augusta James (Bath, Ont.), Jennifer Ha (Calgary, AB), Anne-Catherine Tanguay (Quebec City, QC).

GIRLS’ CLUB - $10,000The Future Links, driven by Acura Girls’ Club program is a developmental golf program designed for girls 7-18 years of age. As members, young girls develop the skills, attitudes and positive images of themselves as athletes on the golf course, encouraging self-esteem and a life-long love of the game. This year’s Women’s Fund, supported 14 Girls’ Clubs across the country.

ALBERTA GOLF - $5,0002017 marked the second year of the She Swings She Scores program in Alberta. The program focuses on girls currently participating in sport, particularly hockey, and encourages them to switch their sticks for golf clubs at local community hockey tournaments and other events. This year, the program introduced 1,232 girls in Alberta to the sport of golf by bringing a community booth to 12 hockey and lacrosse tournaments across the province.

GOLF NEWFOUNDLAND - $5,400In collaboration with Golf Ontario, minor hockey associations and arenas, Golf Newfoundland implemented the She Swings She Scores program this year. The goal is to provide exposure, awareness and knowledge of golf to girls aged 10-14 as a team building activity and increase participation in the game. A driving cage was set up at three tournaments and introduced players from 32 hockey teams to the sport.

Those standards require that we comply with ethical requirements and plan and perform the audit to obtain reasonable assurance about whether the financial statements are free from material misstatement.
