Message from our Leaders

Dear Friends,

It is our honor to report to you on the work of Fam-ily Services of the Merrimack Valley for its fiscal year ending September 30, 2016. This past year, Family Services improved the lives of over 5,400 individu-als from the Merrimack Valley in Massachusetts. This work was made possible by the support of:

• 1,034 donors• 365 volunteers• 23 collaborating organizations• 102 staff and interns

2016 was once again a period of significant growth for Family Services. We were able to expand existing programs to reach even more people, and add new ser-vices that address emerging needs in the community. New programs included:

In-Home Therapy, which provides a team of clinicians and para-professionals to work with families, in the home, to address the mental health needs of children.

ARISE Life Skills curriculum, provided in collabo-ration with local middle schools and youth serving organizations, which helps adolescents learn social, emotional and life skills.

BroTalk, a group support program for high-risk young men, which provides peer support to help them on the path toward a positive future.

Fathers & Family Network, which is part of a state-wide network of coalitions that build relationships and provide training to professionals concerned with strengthening the role of fathers.

We have entered 2017 with optimism, determined to continue fulfilling our mission with passion and in-novation. Our plans moving forward are to continue to adopt effective, evidence-based strategies for helping vulnerable children and families overcome obstacles and reach their full potential.

Thank you for all that you do to support this im-portant work. You enable us to teach, nurture and counsel thousands of children and families each year. Together, we are changing lives.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Sweeney Judith HoltExecutive Director President

We have entered 2017 with optimism, determined to continue fulfilling our mission with passion and innovation.“

In December, 1854, a group of concerned citizens from the city of Lawrence, MA, created a relief society to meet the social service needs of newly arrived mill workers. At that time, they established The Provident Association, later named the Lawrence City Mission, and known today as Family Services of the Merrimack Valley.

Over its rich and diverse history, Family Services has changed in many ways, but its mission has remained steadfast, to empower, nurture, and support children and families through life’s challenges to help them reach their full potential.

Rooted in compassion and respect for the diverse population it serves, Family Services delivers over 20 high quality programs focused on youth develop-ment, parent education, and emotional wellness. All of these services are infused with a sense of hope and possibility and produce tangible and sustainable change, enabling individuals to thrive in their family, community, workplace and school.

Our History &Mission

All of these services are in-fused with a sense of hope and possibility and produce tangible and sustainable change.“
