ABOUT NEC CSI STUDENTS’ BRANCH

Unit of NEC CSI Students’ Branch has been functioning in our college

since 1992. The idea is to spread the knowledge, and provide opportunities to as

many interested as possible. The promotion of Information Technology as a

profession is the top priority of CSI. To fulfill this objective, the CSI regularly

organizes events such as conferences, conventions, special lectures and gives

various awards. And at the same time it also ensures that regular training and skill

development programs are organized for the IT professionals. Every year this

chapter organizes National Level Technical Symposium(NECSI) and NAtional

Conference on Computing and Application(NACCA). In Region VII, our branch

has received Best Students’ Chapter Award for the years 1996-97,1997-98,2005-

06,2006-07,2010-11,2011-12,2012-13,2013-14,2014-15,2015-16.

1.PHOTO-O-MAGIC

A training program on “PHOTO-O-MAGIC (Photoshop for Beginners)” was

conducted by NEC CSI Students’ Branch for second year IT and CSE students. This training

program conducted between 12.07.2016 and 19.07.2016, was an initiative to feast the

creative skills of the budding engineers. The program speakers, M.Alagu Karthik(Final year

IT), G.Jeya Surya and M.Abinesh Naga Murali (Third year IT) provided students some

basic, interesting and simple tactics in photoshop.

The program took place for two weeks under the efficient guidance of CSI student

counselor, Mr.L.Jerart Julus, AP/IT. The program was concluded by giving a test to the

students on the photoshopping skills acquired from the training.

2.BUG D (C DEBUGGING)

An interesting C debugging contest, ‘BUG D’ was conducted by NEC CSI students’

branch for second and third year IT and CSE students on 22.07.2016. About 78 students

eagerly took part in the contest and cracked through various stages of the contest. This

contest helped in bringing out the technical knowledge of the nascent engineers.

3. AFTER EFFECTS

A short term training program ‘After effects’ (Animation video creator) was

organised by NEC CSI students’ branch’s final year students between 29.08.2016 to

31.08.2016. A good numbered 35 students from second, third years of IT and CSE took part

in the training program and have been inspired and motivated to expose their animatic skills.

4. CSI INAUGURAL FUNCTION (2016-2017)

The Inaugural and installation function of NEC Computer Society of India (CSI)

students’ branch for the academic year 2016-2017 was held on 30th August, 2016 at our

campus. This program commenced with the august presence of Dr.D.Manimegalai, Head of

the department IT. The Chief Guest Dr.S.Poonkundran, CSI State Student Coordinator,

inaugurated the function. Student President P.Murali Vinod, Final year CSE welcomed the

gathering.

The Chief Guest Dr.S.Poonkundran, in his addressing, suggested the

student’s to follow the upcoming technologies. And he added a quote that “Wherever we go,

whatever we do, technologies will follow us”. He suggested the student’s to learn the

upcoming technologies such as IOT (Internet of Things) and IOE (Internet of Everything)

which are to create a better world and better future. CSI student Counselor Mr.L.Jerart

Julus, proposed the activities for the academic year 2016-2017. Mr.K.Raj Kumar, CSI

staff coordinator proposed the installation of office bearers for the academic year 2016-2017.

The function was concluded by Ms.P.S.Chaitanya, Secretry of NEC CSI students’ branch.

The arrangements for the function were made under the effective guidance of Dr. D.

Manimegalai, Professor & Head Department of Information Technology, with the energetic

support from the CSI Student counselor and all the faculties of CSE and IT department.

5. THREE DAYS HANDS ON TRAINING ON ‘ EMBEDDED

SYSTEM DESIGN USING ARDUINO PROCESSORS’

Our NEC CSI Students’ Branch had arranged for three days hands on training on

‘Embedded System Design Using Arduino Processors’ for IT students by Mr. B. Anto of

EINSTEIN Techno Solutions, Nagercoil on 25.08.2016, 26.08.2016 and 29.8.2016. This

program served the purpose of developing projects in embedded field, acquire placement in

industries where embedded system is highly appreciated and enhance the knowledge in

embedded system domain.

The workshop fully focused on the building of basic applications using

Arduino, so that the students will understand the basic procedures for working with Arduino

and can explore further on their own. An Arduino is a small computer that can be

programmed to control things like lights or motors along with listening to components like

motion detection sensors. It can give project interactivity without needing an expensive and

large circuit. Instead, one can use a computer to program the Arduino, upload the required

code to the Arduino, and hook up to the designed circuit. The program took place efficiently

under the direct guidance of CSI Student coordinators and counselor.

6. CSI WEEK CELEBRATION

CSI week celebration took place between 19.09.2016 and 23.09.2016 by the NEC CSI

students’ branch by the final year students to second, third year CSE and IT students. It

7. VITTIYA SAKSHARTA ABHIYAN

AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

A Seminar on “VITTIYA SAKSHARTA ABHIYAN” campaign for digital

economy an awareness program on cashless money transfer was conducted by NEC CSI

Students’ Branch for all the students of IT and CSE between 22.12.2016 and 23.12.2016.

The speech provided by CSI Student counselor Mr.L.Jerart Julus, AP(SG)/IT helped the

students to understand and adopt all the cashless modes of payment. It also motivated them

to train and suggest their families in following cashless money transfer. The students were

encouraged to use a digital enabled cashless economic system for transfer of funds in future.

8. NECSI’17

(TWO NATIONAL LEVEL TECHNICAL SYMPOSIUM)

Two days National level Technical Symposium NECSI’17 was organised by

NEC CSI Students’ Branch on 16.02.2017 and 17.02.2017. P.Murali Vinod, President of

NEC CSI Students’ branch, welcomed the gathering. Mr.L.Jerart Julus, NEC CSI Student

Counselor, read the preamble of the symposium.

Principal, Dr.S.Shanmugavel, in his speech, insisted that self motivation

would make the students to excel. He also felicitated the student members for their

continuous efforts and active participation in bringing up the momentum of NEC CSI

Students’ branch. Chief Guest Dr.V.Balamurugan- CSI state Student coordinator, Region

VII, propounded the importance of conducting symposiums. He made note on the initiatives

of government like Digital India, Make in India and Skill India and be aware of such

schemes in a thoughtful way, along with suggestions on developing better qualities outside

the class rooms. Events such as PolyGlot, Minute to Win it, Gaming, Built to Destroy,

Pair With, Code Tri(x)cks, Find Me and IoT Seminar were organized in the Technical

Symposium.

The Technical Symposium NECSI’17 has been organized under the guidance of

Dr.D.Manimegalai, Professor and Head of Information Technology department, with the

support of Mr. L.Jerart Julus, CSI Students’ Counselor, AP(SG)/IT, Mr.Rajkumar, CSI Staff

coordinator, AP/CSE, and other student members of the Branch.

9. ONE DAY SEMINAR ON INTERNET OF THINGS

One day seminar on Internet of Things had been arranged by the NEC CSI

Students’ branch to the CSI students on 17.02.2017. The seminar was provided by

Mr.T.Devakumar, Assistant professor ECE, National Engineering College. The seminar

enriched the students with the basics of IOT and later on the students were presented with an

experimental demo on the IOT toolkit. The afternoon session consisted of a visit to the IOT

lab in Electronic and Communication Engineering department, National Engineering

College. On the end of the day, students were able to realize the significance of IOT in near

future.

10.CSI FOUNDATION DAY

CSI foundation day was arranged by the NEC CSI students’ branch by the CSI

coordinators and CSI EC members on 06.03.2017. Lectures were provided by Mr.L.Jerart

Julus, CSI Student Counselor, AP(SG)/IT and Mr.K.Raj Kumar, CSI staff coordinator,

AP/CSE, about CSI and about the various skill development . Importance of the emerging

technologies was also discussed. Contests such as gaming , best manager and JOB

AWARENESS program for CSE and IT third year students were conducted.

11.VALEDICTORY FUNCTION

CSI Students’ Branch of National Engineering College had conducted the

Valedictory function on 09.03.2017. Student President, Mr.P.Murali Vinod, Final year

CSE of CSI Students’ Chapter welcomed the gathering. The Valedictory address was given

by NEC CSI Students’ Branch counselor Mr.L.Jerart Julus, AP(SG)/IT.

SBC in his valedictory address, our CSI students’ branch creates a platform for all the

students to gain leadership qualities and technical knowledge. He asked the students to

improve their Team spirit and Communication skill so that they can compete with the other

students. Also insisted the students to improve their Research activities, Students should

develop their knowledge on different technologies rather than the regular curriculum and

should have the capability to implement that knowledge. Later, prizes and certificates were

distributed to the students who had participated in various contests conducted throughout the

academic year 2016 -2017.
