every parentwants a better future for their familyIt had been more than �ve years since our family felt any sense of permanence in our living situation. For a short time, we were essentially homeless. We were ready for some stability and a more a�ordable house. Encouraged by a friend, we visited Habitat for Humanity to �nd out if our family quali�ed. We heard the news of our acceptance the week of �anksgiving 2014.

Over the course of the following year, we shared life with many Habitat volunteers and had the unique opportunity of three generations of Botkin men swinging a hammer side by side. A strong sense of camaraderie developed as volunteers brought snacks, ran dump loads, painted and repainted, caulked and caulked and caulked, raked compost and planted �owerbeds, built fences, etc.

A week before Christmas 2015, just over a year a�er that special �anksgiving, our family moved into our new home, complete with a tree! Our new neighborhood is such a blessing and we are so thankful!

We continue to see familiar faces around town and our hearts feel enlarged with the love of our neighbors expressed to us through working side by side to help us create a house that has now become our home. We cannot adequately express our gratitude to God and our community for the gi� of this opportunity.

As with Habitat’s homeownership program, participants in the repair program pay back the cost of the repairs with their time and an a�ordable loan.

I love how the community owns Habitat for Humanity.

One of the things I will always recall about 2015 is the way our Quilcene Habitat Store volunteers, many of whom live in Brinnon, advocated passionately for Habitat to extend its home repair program from its initial focus on the core of Quilcene to Brinnon and the rest of South County.

I’m thrilled to tell you that we are preparing to do our �rst home repairs in Brinnon. Our name says we serve East Je�erson County.Now our actions say it, too.
