A Banner Year for DMSF Dear Friends,

This fall the 25th cohort of DMSF Scholars entered high school. One of those students was the 2,100th young person to have become a DMSF Scholar.

We have accomplished a great deal in our first 25 years, but our work has just begun. This fall, at DMSF’s 25th anniversary celebration, we proudly announced our Forward to 500 campaign: our intention to increase the DMSF student population by 40% over the next five years.

We all know the need is there. DMSF annually receives between 800 and 1,000 applications from 8th grade students looking for help to be able to attend a college preparatory high school.

A recent study released by the University of Chicago shows that only 14% of the students who enter a Chicago public high school will, within ten years, graduate from college. Becoming a DMSF Scholar alters that equation dramatically. A student’s likelihood of graduating from college increases by 500% if he or she becomes a member of the DMSF Scholar family.

The Daniel Murphy Scholarship Fund is transforming the lives of its Scholars, and DMSF Scholars and Alumni are, in turn, transforming their communities. They are finding ways to give back to DMSF, to their schools and to their neighborhoods, to help the next generation of students.

To our donors and our volunteers, we cannot thank you enough for all that you do for DMSF. Together we are igniting the potential and enriching the lives of deserving students who have exhibited a passion for learning. Please continue to donate and volunteer as we move Forward to 500.
