OUR MISSION

Workforce Development, Health & Safety

HVO received the North Carolina Department of Labor Safety Health

Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) Award for safety excellence.

HVO received the North Carolina Department of Labor Gold Safety

award for the Riverbend facility, a Gold Safety award for the Westwood

facility, and a Gold Safety award overall.

Nursing students from Haywood Community College visited the Learning

& Enrichment Center and gave a mini health fair to recognize Heart Health Awareness.

HVO gave away 52 Folkmoot event tick-

ets to employees during an in-house

drawing.

Ten clients volunteer at the Folkmoot

Center making beds and cleaning the sleeping quarters.

Employees donated food for a Thanks-

giving meal to feed 17 clients and their

families.

Participated in The Salvation Army Kettle Drive for two days in December.

22 children of HVO clients received gifts from HVO’s Annual Holiday Giving

Tree.

27 clients volunteered at Haywood Christian Ministries sorting clothes and

shoes and bagging pet food.

Innovation clients volunteer with Meals on Wheels by delivering warm meals

to participants weekly.

Community Activities

L & E clients submitted craft exhibits at the Haywood County Fair.

HVO volunteered during the kick-off construction of the Haywood Path-

ways Center and held a donation drive collecting 253 personal care items

for the center.

45 clients attended the annual Altrusa Soup & Cornbread luncheon in

January.

Donated $2,136.58 from yearly biscuit and cheeseburgers sales to the

Haywood County Special Olympics.

Employees and HVO pledged $40,678.08 to the 2015 United Way Cam-

paign.

HVO held its annual Folkmoot/

Barbeque picnic in July 2014 with over 400 attendees. A

musical group from Trinidad performed at the event.

Workforce Development, Health & Safety (cont.)

Hosted a blood drive with the American Red Cross Bloodmobile with 17 donors participating.

Free flu shots were offered to employees.

55 employees took advantage of the Sam’s Club membership incen-tive that HVO offered.

HVO received a grant from the Haywood Healthcare Foundation to purchase a blood pressure monitoring system.

Implemented new provider for 403B Retirement Plan, Pentegra.

OUR VISION

HVO will be a nationally recognized social enter-prise business with an integrated workforce de-velopment program creating opportunities and empowerment for our people through successful strategic partnerships.

Business Enterprise

Successfully completed a BSI (British Standards Institute) re-certification audit to maintain ISO-9001 and ISO-13485 registration.

All Regional Development facilities that partner with HVO are ISO regis-tered.

Successfully completed a micro-biological audit with BSI.

Held a two-day Strategic Planning session in February.

HVO shipped a total of 2,076 shipments.

HVO received a grant to display at its first ophthalmic tradeshow in April.

Sales & Marketing successfully created and implemented HVO’s Strate-gic Sales and Marketing Plan in January to drive business growth over the next 5 years.

Completed implementation and testing of disaster recovery plan for HVO’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.

Implemented a commercial laundry program and added designated gowning areas to continue to improve the environmental control for medical device manufacturing areas.

Completed validation of CNC cutting equipment.

HVO hosted a *MARC lead and internal auditor training in October.

*MARC (Marketing Association for Rehabilitation Centers) is a 501 (c) (3) organization formed in 1978

that supports 14 non-profit Community Rehabilitation Programs in a 21-county region of western North

Carolina. MARC’s mission is to support vocational rehabilitation and developmental training in this

region for adults with physical or mental disabilities or both.

HVO nominees won NCARF (North Carolina Association of Rehabilitation Facilities) awards in late September. Award recipients are as follows:

Dora Mae Conard, Facility Services employee – Vocational Achievement in the Facility Award

Tony Mowery, former employee – Vocational Achievement in the Community Award

Kathy Deaver, Maintenance Specialist employee – Behind the Scenes Award

Wal-Mart of Waynesville – Community Employer Award

The following individuals were recognized at the 2014 *MARC annual awards luncheon held in October:

Maewanda Seagraves, HVO employee – Spirit of MARC Award

Kimberly Lamb, HVO client - Personal Achievement Award

Jennifer Quillin, HVO client, was recognized for her excellence in visual arts.

Morgan Bielick competes in the USA Special Olympics and served as a Senate Page in the NC General Assembly in Raleigh assisting Senator Jim Davis.

Donna Swanger, employee, won “Adult Athlete of the Year” for the Hay-wood County Special Olympics.

Tyler Smith was the winner of the HVO’s 2014 Holiday Card design out of 38 entries.

Received a Paul Harris Fellow recognition award via Haywood Rotary Club.

Jim Froehlich was recognized for his dedicated service as a board mem-ber.

Learning & Enrichment Program

Celebrates 10 Years

2014 – Served more than 110 clients

2004 – Opened Dec. 14 with 18 clients

HVO provided community support services to 7 individuals.

HVO has maintained a record number of client/trainees, aver-aging a daily enrollment of 92.

Three students from local high schools participated in the Transi-tional School Services program at HVO.

Achieved a three year re-accreditation from the internationally recognized body of the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

HVO published its 7th yearbook, “HVO Reflections 2014”.

Learning & Enrichment (L & E) offered art classes for clients instructed by Facility Services Lead, Maewanda Seagraves.

L & E hosted an HVO candy shop selling sweet treats raising $120 to re-turn to the program.

Five clients worked on a special packaging project from Giles Chemical.

Employment & Training

33 individuals have been em-

ployed through HVO program
