Between You and Me
Date : 08 April, 2014
Dear Friend,
Financial Planner continues to be amongst the Top 10 jobs in the careercast 2013 rankings of America’s 200 jobs. Financial Planner was ranked as the 5th best job with specifics of the job related to careers in portfolio management and offering a broad range of services aimed at assisting individuals in managing and planning their financial future. In India, Financial Planning shall be increasingly relevant as an art and science to firstly create wealth and then manage wealth in a disciplined manner to achieve financial goals. It is more towards attaining a state of financial freedom, a way of achieving balance in our financial transactions on an ongoing basis than one-off transactions. The number of cFP professionals in India rose to 1,843 as on 31 December 2013 while the number globally crossed 1.53 lakh. India with a major share of middle class population requires Financial Planning services to achieve life goals of her masses. In three decades India will have the second largest population of senior citizens in the world. This is on top of the fact that no social security has been built as a Government initiative. This entails Retirement Planning to be our top priority. hence, a holistic retirement plan is the need of the hour.
In India, the regulatory efforts are at an advanced stage to creating an effective oversight of intermediaries in the financial services. Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has invited applications from organizations of intermediaries for recognizing an appropriate body as a Self Regulatory Organization (SRO) for mutual Fund Distributors. The vision of FPSB India is to further the efforts of such an SRO through proper education and training of distributors to enable them evolve at the next level, i.e. advisers. There must be a proper segregation of intermediaries into segments of pure advisers and distributors. The ultimate aim is to engineer a convergence of advisory so that the SRO is co-opted by all regulators, viz. Insurance, Pension and Banking. The cFP certification aims as harmonizing such diverse financial domains on the Personal Finance platform for an individual’s disciplined achievement of financial goals. We would continue with our efforts to scale up the Financial Planning movement in the country and work closely with all stakeholders for further augmentation of Financial Planning profession in the country. We look forward to the continuance of your worthy patronage. We sincerely endeavour the profession to help India’s Wealth Quotient on an upward spiral.
Warm Regards,
Ranjeet S mudholkarVice chairman & cEO, FPSB India

ContinUoUs eDUCation6FPSB India has the following activities and programs admissible for continuous professional development of certificants which will be considered for renewal of cFP certification:
FPSB INDIA REPORT | mARch 2014 | 22
1 The requirement of acquiring 15 cE points (cEPs) is immediately after the issue of initial certification and falls due when the certificant renews his/her certification at annual intervals.
2 The cEPs are to be acquired in certification period and any excess points are not carried forward in the next certification period.
3 The failure to renew on due date apart from late renewal penalty entails requirement of earning extra cEPs only beyond 6 months of due date of renewal.
4 Failure to fulfill the continuous Education criterion within the prescribed period will result in non-renewal of cFP certification and will also preclude any use of the cFP marks by the certificant.
5 Unsupported, misstated or fraudulent reporting of cE credits shall be viewed seriously and may call for action by FPSB India and may be a ground for disciplinary action leading to revocation of the cFP certification.
