Background of the Institution: The Centurion University of Technology and Management was established as a State Private University, in 2010, by an Act of the Orissa Legislative Assembly. However, the journey of the Centurion Group of Institutes, now the Centurion University of Technology and Management (CUTM), actually began in 2005 when a group of Professors [Prof. Mukti K Mishra, MA (Applied Eco), MA (Pub Admn.) (Utkal University, India), MBA & PhD (Victoria University, Australia - APA Scholar), Prof. D.N. Rao, IIM (C), British Chevening Scholar and former Professor of XIMB, and Prof. D.K. Mishra, MTech (Oklahoma), Ph.D. (Ann Arbor, Michigan)] took over an ailing engineering institute – Jagannath Institute for Technology & Management (JITM) - which was set up in 1997 at the behest of the-then Prime Minister of India, Shri P.V. Narasimha Rao. The University currently includes a School of Management, School of Engineering and Technology, School of Agriculture Science, School of Basic Sciences and School of Vocational Education and Training. The main campus of the Centurion University is at Paralakhemundi, in Gajapati District (southern Orissa), and its constituent campus, is located at Bhubaneswar. The Institutes have been running with all required approvals of Government of Orissa and AICTE since 1997 and 2008, respectively. The University is also involved in many social and environmental programs, undertaking disaster risk reduction, environmental and entrepreneurship training, vocational training, and social development initiatives. Gajapati District, where the University is located, is one of the poorest districts in Orissa State, which appears in the Prime Minister’s “100 poorest districts of India” list and one of the 31 “Most Extremist Affected Districts” (MEAD) of India. The GER of the district and region is below 7% whereas the GER of the state is 13%. Gajapati is a Scheduled District and has been brought under special focus (Biju Kandhamal – Gajapati Yojana). by the Government of Orissa. Since the Institute was taken over by the founders of the Centurion Group in 2005, committed and sustained efforts have been made to bring about a difference both academically and socio-economically to this district in particular and the area (comprising Koraput, Malkanagiri, Bolangir, Kandhamal, Rayagada and Boudh Districts) in general. The School of Vocational Education and Training of Centurion University (through its social outreach Gram Tarang) is one of the first partners of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), with an agreement to setup over 50 skill training and capacity building centres across the country. Centurion has entered into a partnership with the Government of Orissa, the Government of India and non-governmental agencies to provide capacity building training with post-training job assurance for BPL, SC and ST youth. The focus of Centurion has been to create opportunities for earning a decent and sustainable livelihood through self-employment and employment of young people

from marginalised communities of rural and remote areas. The training programs of Centurion University have also been nationally and internationally recognised. Since its inception, the Centurion University has drawn upon the experience of highly qualified faculty. Centurion University’s School of Business in Paralakhemundi (known as the Centurion School of Rural Enterprise Management or CSREM) has achieved an A++ rating in Business India’s annual review of all Business Schools in India. The members of the faculty have played a pivotal role in shaping the character of the University as a centre for excellence in technical education and skill development. The University is committed to strengthening its infrastructure on a continuous basis, and has established an optical fibre backbone for the campus-based intranet. CUTM has upgraded its VSAT based Internet connectivity by establishing 10-Mbps leased line, which runs through the entire campus. The University is committed to providing seamless Internet connectivity round the clock to all students and faculty. To provide comprehensive education, that is, hands-on knowledge, practice oriented approach and experience based learning, the University has set up Social Entrepreneurship Outreach Entities, such as: Gram Tarang Employability Training Services: A skill building initiative focused on socially and economically challenged sections of society, specially school dropouts in rural Orissa, providing thorough technical training, developing social and behavioral traits of candidates to make them ready for employment. The spectrum of training also covers candidates having higher degrees but who are not ready for industry. The sectors and portfolios of training are: Industry Sectors: Core Engineering & Manufacturing (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Fabrication) Automotive| Apparel & Textiles | Mining, Construction & Allied | Retail & Hospitality | Banking & Finance | IT & ITES Skills Portfolio: Industrial Fitter | Machinist | Welder | Electrician | Auto Mechanic | Service Technician | CAD/CAM | Driver | Electronics Repair | Sewing Machine Operator| Retail Salesperson | Front Office Assistant | Data Entry Operator | BPO Operator | DTP | Hardware & Networking | Banking Correspondent (BC) |Rural Retail Banking Facilitator Diploma, B.
