Closing our Community’s Health Care Gap In fiscal 2012- 2013 the Seeing More Clearly Campaign, for an MRI and more, celebrated its success with donors and volunteers. The campaign was led by Honourary Co-Chairs Barbara Minogue, Ted Hargreaves and Steve Omischl, and managed by Campaign Co-chairs Ted Thomson and Al McDonald, joined by 40 committed community leaders from our district. As a result of the generosity of people in our area and beyond, the campaign reached it $6 million target. The district now has an MRI, digital mammography, X-ray, fluoroscopy & angiography equipment as well as a SPECT/CT for nuclear medicine; access to the best diagnostic care possible. Donors Raise $6 Million to Purchase MRI and other Diagnostic Imaging Needs of the District

Through generous gifts and the efforts of our volunteers, the Foundation was able to provide $3.1 million in support for the building of the new Hospital and the purchase of urgently needed medical equipment which included state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging equipment. The Foundation raises district and regional support through direct mail letters, personal solicitation, memorial gifts, a lottery, Friends of the Foundation, monthly giving program, third party events, planned gifts, named endowments and Our Hospital Walk/Run event.

This past year, the Foundation sent two letters to district communities seeking urgent support. In the spring of 2012 nine breast cancer survivors asked the district for support for a new state-of-the-art digital mammography unit. In the fall, 20,000 district residents were asked by Dr. Lukmaan Waja, obstetrician, to support the purchase of an advanced central fetal monitoring system for every mother and

child in labour and delivery. Individuals responded generously to both appeals, raising more than $72,000.

The community supported more than 10 special events hosted by service organizations, businesses and individuals in support of the Foundation. The Foundation encourages donors to make planned gifts such as; a gift in a Will, a gift of property or a gift of life insurance. The Foundation undertook a legacy campaign calling over 500 of its most loyal donors inviting them to consider leaving a planned gift in their Will.

The 6th annual Our Hospital Walk/Run continued to be successful. It set a new records for participants by attracting 825 runners/walkers and volunteers. Forty-six sponsors and community pledges raised an historical high of $103,000.

To build on 13 years of success, the Board of Directors developed its first major strategic plan to guide its thinking and decision making over the next five years. Part of the process was an operational review by an independent auditor. The audit reported that by all accounts, the Foundation is well run, successful in surpassing its annual financial goals and raises funds at a cost per dollar raised that is lower then industry standards.

The Association of Healthcare Philanthropy Canada, at its national conference, awarded the Foundation with its Mentorship Award recognizing the coaching of other community charitable organizations.

The Foundation relies heavily on over 140 extraordinary volunteers. This includes those who volunteer to serve on the board, help in the office and volunteer at special events.
