A Message from AID Chairman and President

Chuck MilesAID Board Chairman

Lynn O’Shea President/CEO

Dear friends,

This year at AID we have celebrated the growth, successes and accomplishments of the clients who rely on our support every day. We have also faced many challenges with resolve, determination and dedication. AID employees are above all else, compassionate advocates for the people they serve. For the coming year, they have pledged to help every client at AID (and themselves) focus on living a healthier lifestyle by promoting health education, regular exercise, nutrition and positive mental health. We are committed to being a healthier, fitter organization next year!

Even though we are very excited about our health initiative, our spirits are somewhat dampened at the knowledge that we will continue to face ‘slimmed down’ revenue sources from the State. Medicaid and grant cuts continue to plague our financial picture. The State of Illinois continues to struggle with paying AID promptly for services rendered. We are so fortunate that our staff and Board members are very good stewards of our financial resources; keeping our balance sheet presentable even in these challenging times. We will continue to provide quality services in the face of any challenge.

In an effort to create a new funding source for people with disabilities, the AID Board members took a very bold step this year, evaluating the potential for a County-based referendum, in collaboration with a half dozen other local agencies who also serve individuals with disabilities. Thank you to all who are assisting in this effort by collecting signatures on petitions, making presentations to local clubs and community organizations, and helping to inform the public of the needs of our vulnerable citizens with disabilities.

We are so proud that many individuals are obtaining and maintaining jobs, living in their own apartments and/or affordable group homes and participating in the community; AID acquired 3 new homes this year. We have much to be thankful for, including earning a 3 year accreditation from the National Commission-CARF, and of course, the incredible generosity of our family members, friends, employees, and community partners.

Thanks to you all for your dedication to the individuals in your communities who need your support!
