but the team continued its unbroken run of making every semi final series since 2005. In the “salary cap” era, this is a great achievement, and Des Hasler and his entire coaching and football department staff are to be congratulated on this consistently high performance.

For the Football Club, 2010 was an important year of transition, as we focused our efforts on advocating the redevelopment of Brookvale Oval, on working closely with the Sea Eagles leadership to integrate our memberships, and on honouring our past by bringing former Sea Eagles players into regular contact with current fans and members. Let me briefly describe some work in each of these 3 areas.

MANLY-WARRINGAH RUGBY LEAGUE FOOTBALL CLUB LIMITED

ANNUAL REPORT 2010

Redevelopment of Brookvale Oval as a modern football and community facility is absolutely vital for the future of the Sea Eagles. As a membership-run organisation, the Football Club is ideally placed to represent the views of thousands of fans to Warringah Council. We’ve worked hard to advocate a sensible, balanced plan for redevelopment that will support both the Sea Eagles and the needs of the community, and Football Club Patron Kerry Sibraa and Football Club director Philip Dean are doing tireless work in discussing our ideas with council and community members. We hope to see positive results in 2011.

We are very pleased with the progress we’ve made working with Graham Lowe and the management team at the Sea Eagles on integrated membership. Most of you will have seen the “tick box” option on Sea Eagles 2011 membership forms to also join the Leagues and Football Clubs. This is a great step forward, and we hope to build on this for 2012 membership. I’d like to commend Graham and his team on the great work they’re doing.

The Football Club Board continues to maintain, and where possible strengthen, our shareholding in the Sea Eagles. In 2010, the Football Club purchased 50,000 shares in the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles Limited, injecting much-needed new capital into the Sea Eagles. While we will purchase additional shares from time to time, the Manly Warringah League Club is a more appropriate vehicle for membership-based purchases of equity in the Sea Eagles, and that organisation’s decision to purchase equity will reduce the need for us to do so in the future. We welcomed club legend Cliff Lyons to the Football Club board in 2010; Cliff represents a tangible link with former players, and proof of our commitment to honouring this great club’s proud history. We continued the “new” tradition of an “Old Boys” event prior to a Brookie home game; this was a great success and we will aim to expand this event in 2011.

On behalf of the Board, I would like to wish all Football Club Members and their families a safe and Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year, and a more successful 2011 supporting our beloved Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles!

knowing that at our best the side was capable of beating any opponent. Unfortunately from game one when Brett Stewart was injured against the Wests Tigers and sidelined for the season the best available side never took the field.

Stewart’s loss on top of his five game appearance the season before has had an amazing effect on the club. His blinding speed and unpredictable play from fullback has been sorely missed. His replacements have done a good job but Stewart is a rare diamond in our game and hopefully the change of luck he needs in his life will kick in during the upcoming 2011 season.

Coaching Report

The 2010 season was one of frustration for the Sea Eagles players, fans and sponsors,

In addition to not having Stewart all season was magnified by the loss of David Williams prior to the competition starting. The Wolfman had worked hard in the pre season and to be sidelined before playing a premiership game was another blow the side had to endure. But rather than dwell on the loss of not having our two speed merchants all season there was a lot of success coming out of the maroon and white camp.

The injuries and suspensions in 2010 allowed the club to blood several young players and Will Hopoate, Jamie Buhrer, Dean Whare, Trent Hodkinson and Michael Oldfield passed their initiation into the NRL with flying colours. All with the exception of Buhrer started the season with the Toyota Cup team and answered the call into the big time with great poise and skill. Whare’s debut match against the North Queensland Cowboys was a season highlight with three tries and a headline grabbing display.Hopoate and Oldfield are local juniors and their elevation into the top grade was smooth and successful. The young players are a real investment for the future and they will be joined by a strong crop coming through in 2011. The joint captaincy role for Jamie Lyon and Jason King was a tremendous success and the pair combined duties which come with leadership very professionally. Their form throughout the season was inspirational to their team mates.

Making the semi finals is no longer good enough for the organization and nothing short of a top four spot will be good enough in 2011. I am quietly confident that can be achieved with the playing roster we have. While we haven’t been in the market place buying a lot of players we have managed to attract excellent young players looking for an opportunity to join in with our very strong group of proven players. Given a fair run in the injury and suspension areas I feel we can be a very competitive club in the 2011 season.

I would like to take this opportunity of thanking my football staff for their professional and support in 2010. I would also like to commend the work done in the front office and from the CEO Graham Lowe and the Board who have been totally supportive.

To all a happy family Xmas and a New Year which brings great success to the Manly Sea Eagles.

Des HaslerHead Coach
