QUALITY ASSURANCE Quality Assurance (QA) is used as common denomination for a variety of mechanisms intended to control, guarantee and promote quality in higher education institutions. It is also used to attain the objective of achieving international competitiveness and compatibility of its academic programs and research quality. The quality of faculty and students, infrastructural facilities (laboratories, library etc.), research and learning environment, strategic planning, assessment procedures and market forces are the main elements of Quality Assurance in a Higher Educational Institutions. QA in Higher Education is a global challenge which demands enhancing the Quality of Higher Education on viable and sustainable basis. The role of Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) is to put a focused attention on Quality Assurance aspect of Education and operates for the execution of QA policies designed by QAA/HEC with uniformity of pace and standards. QEC was established in the Institute with the task to enhance the quality of higher education and it is a continuous process. Due to patronage and keen interest of the Vice Chancellor, QEC is acting as ‘catalyst body’ to expedite the quality implementation and attain new standards of excellence for PIFD. PROGRESS

In order to prepare Self Assessment Reports (SARs) of three (03) Departments i.e. Fashion Design, Fashion Marketing & Merchandizing and Jewellery Design & Gemological Sciences in terms of their academic programs during the Semester Spring 2016, QEC constituted Program Teams (PTs).

QEC conducted the awareness sessions with the Program Teams (PTs) of the Departments to apprise them about Self Assessment Manual (SAM) through powerpoint presentation including eight (08) criteria, its thirty one (31) associated standards and ten (10) Survey Forms in detail for preparation of Self Assessment Reports (SARs) of the Departments in terms of their academic programs.

Awareness Sessions with Program Teams

During the period under report, QEC reviewed and finalized the Self Assessment Reports (SARs) submitted by the PTs of the following departments:

1. Department of Fashion Design;2. Department of Fashion Marketing and Merchandising; and3. Department of Jewellery Design and Gemological Sciences.

SURVEYS

The following applicable eight (08) surveys were carried out in accordance with the SAM to incorporate their feedback in SARs:

1. Faculty Evaluation 5. Faculty2. Course Evaluation 6. Alumni3. Graduating Students 7. Employer4. Faculty Course Review Report 8. Faculty Resume

The Data collected regarding the said surveys was analyzed by using SPSS software and developed comprehensive reports.

The overall response of all the surveys in terms of % age is shown graphically:

1. Faculty Evaluation

Summaries of the Faculty Evaluation have been delivered to all the Course Coordinators / Head of Departments for information. Letters depicting scores obtained on the basis of evaluation during the semester delivered to faculty members regarding their performance with copies to the Registrar under confidential cover to place the same in their personal files.

To assess the finalized SARs, QEC constituted the Assessment Teams (ATs) in consultation / recommendations of the Registrar, Course Coordinators/Head of Departments and with the approval of the Vice Chancellor. QEC conducted sessions with the ATs of the Departments to create awareness regarding conduction of assessment/evaluation of the academic programs in view of SARs.

QEC arranged visits of ATs to the Departments for assessment of the academic programs wherein Course Coordinators/Head of Departments, PTs, Faculty and QEC Staff were present.

Assessment Teams Visit to the Departments

ATs submitted the Assessment Reports to QEC having status of addressing the criteria and its associated standards. In accordance with Self Assessment Procedure, QEC conducted the Exit Meetings of the Departments i.e. Fashion Design, Fashion Marketing & Merchandising and Jewellery Design &

Gemological Sciences Chaired by the Director QEC wherein Course Coordinators / Head of Departments, ATs, PTs, Faculty and QEC Staff participated.

Exit Meetings of the Departments

The Team Leaders of ATs presented their findings regarding allocation of scores on all the eight (08) criteria, its thirty one (31) associated standards and surveys in the Exit Meetings before finalization of the Assessment Report.After completion of SA process, QEC submitted the Executive and Assessment Results Implementation Plan Summaries of each assessed academic programs to the Vice Chancellor for consideration.

QEC also submitted Yearly Progress Report (YPR) to QAA/HEC, Islamabad for Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) rating. The Score Card received from QAA/HEC, Islamabad, PIFD secured 86% score having highest Quality Level i.e. “W” Category. During the period under report, QEC organized two seminars on Quality Assurance for faculty.
