Dear Friends of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona,

Our agency achieved so much in 2018! We revealed a new national brand, started new innovative programs to

serve more kids and provide better customer service to our volunteers, and moved to a new learning management

system that will help us become more efficient. All of these improvements are designed to foster growth and

quality. We also completed the first year of our 3 year strategic plan to serve 2000 children by 2020.

Through the tireless efforts of our amazing team, we exceeded our fundraising goal of $2.2 million and raised

more than $2.4 million. With the funds raised, we served 1555 youth (Littles) that were matched with a mentor

(Big) an average of 23 months! We completed a two year program with the Virginia G Piper Foundation that

showed us areas in which we should focus in order to grow and thrive. With this new knowledge, we hired our

first Volunteer Experience Manager who works directly with our volunteers to make sure they are getting the best

care and customer service we can give them. We recognize that children today are dealing with more trauma than

ever before and we need to make sure our volunteers are equipped with the knowledge and support they need to

help them succeed. Additionally, we received a grant to hire our first Trauma Informed Care Specialist to allow

us to support more children who are dealing with these greater challenges.

We continue to look for ways to improve the mentoring experience and become a more collaborative community

partner. In addition to our partnerships with one•n•ten and ICAN, we started working with the Mesa School

District to begin two new site based programs. We continue to offer more training to our volunteers, families and

kids in order to have the best outcomes overall.

BBBSAZ is proud to be celebrating its 65th Anniversary in 2020 and we look forward to continuing our impactful

work in the community. Our team is passionate and committed to our mission and the volunteers, kids and

parents we serve. As a supporter of BBBSAZ, you have been a part of our journey as well. Thank you for your

support and trust in the very important work that we do. It is important that we work together now to make a

difference in the lives of our disenfranchised youth. Together we can make Arizona more responsible to the needs

of our most precious assets – our youth!

Gratefully,

Laura Capello

Community-Based Mentoring

We Believe All Children Can Achieve Success in Life

• Our programs are based on the premise that youth need the support and protective factor of a positive adult role model in their lives if they are to improve in a broad array of different skill and resiliency areas.

• One to one mentoring directly aligns with, and incorporates, the premises of Positive Youth Development by design. • We utilize an evidence-based mentor model created by Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, proven in building skills and

resiliency for youth.• Positive adult role models help mentor and guide youth, encouraging them to achieve success and become productive

citizens in our community.
