The Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) of the IQAC

Year of Report : 2009-2010

The IQAC was constituted as an exercise to monitor all aspects of quality

improvement in the college. The committee comprised the following persons.

PART – A

A Plan of action was chalked out for the academic year 2009-10 by the IQAC in

consultation with the various department of the college.

Plan of Action (2009-10)

The action plan chalked out in the beginning of the year towards Enhancement of

quality

1. Introducing Choice-based credit system - to facilitate greater freedom in selection of

courses within the departments.

2. Deputing staff members to seminars/workshops (regional, national and

international), - for upgradation of subject knowledge as well as to understand the

needs of Higher Education in the present day context.

3. Conducting seminars / workshops / symposia, at college and departmental level - to

supplement learning and encourage participation.

4. Introducing technology in Teaching, Learning and Evaluation, to enhance learning

skills.

5. Upgrading the general infrastructure as well as student facilities in the college.

6. Improving student support measures by developing congenial initiatives like PTA,

Mentoring, and Fact finding surveys, job placements and Alumnae linkages.

7. Encouraging Research Culture

8. Undertaking Academic Audit

9. Motivating student participation in extra and co curricular activities through

departmental associations.

10. Increasing number of courses offered in the college.

PART – B

1. Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution include: 1. Endeavour to make contribution to the society

3. Foster an atmosphere for intellectual pursuit.

4. Train young women in a climate of trust and faith

5. Identify, locate and provide resources needed to maintain a level of excellence.

To meet these aims and goals the following activities were undertaken:

1. Celebrating the Valedictory of 50 years of SJC – Eucharistic Meet.

2. Value-based Education:

a. PERSONAL EMPOWERMENT COURSE - 1 hour /week, for all students

b. 2 Credits assigned for successful completion of the course.

3. Workshops / Seminars for Students and Faculty/Non Teaching Staff.

4. Discipline and Regularity among students – Attendance regulation, constant

monitoring of student progress, PTA.

5. Examination – Strict conduct and Transparency.

6. Scholarships: Support to students.

23. Courses in which student assessment of teachers is introduced and the action taken on student feedback:

Academic Audit:

a. Peer Evaluation of Faculty

d. Self Appraisal

Proforma for the above evaluations was prepared in consultation with the senior

faculty members. Subsequently the following actions were taken.

a. Peer Evaluation of Faculty:

Senior staff members were assigned to evaluate the fresh staff on a proforma.

The IQAC team then gave a copy of the evaluation sheet to the faulty,

suggesting compliments and corrections in classroom teaching methods and

knowledge of subject matter.

b. Student Evaluation of Courses:

The final year students were required to evaluate the course of the previous

semester in terms of content and other parameters. The students found the

courses satisfactory. Need based changes were initiated in the Boards of

Studies.

c. Student Evaluation of Faculty:

The students were required to evaluate the faculty on a 10 point scale on 15

parameters. All the faculty were evaluated by their respective students. The

scores were computerized and average rating of students calculated. Faculty

was called upon and the score card averages for the 15 parameters were given

and scores discussed.

e. Self Appraisal:

An elaborate proforma was prepared and faculty was required to fill the form.

This will subsequently be utilized to appraise performance for the year.

Apart from above steps, occasionally if there is a need the Principal based on

feedback from students takes specific steps to counsel faculty on their

performance.

25. Computerization of administration and the process of admission and

examination results, issue of certificates:

Yes, is in practice since 5 years

26. Increase in the infrastructure facilities.

• Reconstruction of the Roof of the Main College Building

• Building additional rooms in the hostel – second floor

• Provision of Fire Safety Measures for the entire College

• Extension of Internet facility

• Augmentation of Laboratory facilities

• Protected Drinking Water Supply by Reverse Osmosis Treatment

• Canteen upgraded

• Developing garden in the campus and at the hostel premises.
