Arena Driving Trial & PotluckMarch 28 & 29, 2014

In spite of one of the worst winters in a long, long time, the 2nd Arena Driving Trial was held at Windrush Farm. An informal clinic on conditioning the driving horse was held, with Barbara Chapman, Dennis Yancho and Brian Robertson speaking about their experiences.

Dressage was driven in the morning with cones & obstacles driven together in the afternoon.

MCDE XXX– June 13 – 15, 201412

At this 30th Annual CDE we hosted a contingent of skilled drivers, and the great volunteers came out to work the event and make it one of the best we’ve ever had.

Ann and Richard Pringle are resigning from active roles in the event. Thank you, Ann and Richard for your many years of service at the MCDE.

The Otto Siegmund Award – 2000 thru Present

15

Otto was a very dedicated supporter of theMCDE, serving in various capacities from1986 to 1998. To quote Jocelyn Scofield,“Dedication to ‘the game’ is part of the criteria. Playing fair and always ‘giving ityour best shot’ is another element. Being serious without taking yourself too seriously and being very competitive while maybe taking time or trouble to help somebody else is also part of the mix. In short, a very good sport who ‘loves the game of driving and of life – and plays it well’.”

For this 30th anniversary MCDE, the officials and Committee Members were so pleased to offer this award to our own Dr. Charles R. Becker (or Bob, as we all know him). Bob was thrilled to receive the award, having spent many pleasanthours with fellow veterinarian Dr. Sigmund.

Picnic at Spangler’s White Fences Farm - July 19, 2014

The Spangler’s handsome dog, Winston, greeted the guests with enthusiasm.

The trails at White Fences were beautifully groomed, and the grounds, flowers, lake and fountain were perfect.

Jim and Patt made sure the ambiance was charming by supplying white chairs and tables draped with red and white checkered tablecloths, topped with baskets of flowers.

16

Harvest, Horses & Hounds – September 27, 2014

17

MCDA was well represented at Metamora’s Harvest, Horses & Hounds Celebration.

Diane Romska drove her meadowbrook put to her 22 year old Morgan Sierra.

Martin & Mary Chris Foxworthy were on the planning committee for the event and also brought their ladies wicker phaeton and Concord wagon for the MCDA carriage display. Sue Mahar brought her dog cart, Karen Wilson brought her meadowbrook, and Kay Van Natta brought her governess cart.

Continuous Drive at Stump

Lane FarmOct. 11, 2014

This year’s Continuous Drive hosted 18 whips, including 3 pairs. The largest turnout ever.

The course is always great at Jocelyn’s beautiful farm, winding through trees, over bridges and through large fields - some with pleasant hazards and one set up for a judged driving pattern.

The potluck following was, as always, great fun for all.

The John Lynch Award

The John Lynch Award was established to honor the memory of MCDA member , volunteer, enthusiastic driving participant and dear friend John Lynch following his untimely death in 1993.

John was kind, fair, even tempered, and generous. His contributions to MCDA were, without fail, valuable and consistent. He was a good sport in every sense of the word.

Recipients of the John Lynch are chosen for significant contributions to MCDA that reflect qualities embodied in John. The selection committee consists of the President of MCDA, the most recent recipient, John’s widow Beth Lynch and the award’s founder, Jocelyn Scofield.

Celebration of MCDA’s 40th Year27

The Metamora Carriage and Driving Association was founded in 1974, which makes this next year our 40th year. Yes, our anniversary is this year, but we want to spread out the celebration over the next 12 months.

At the November MCDA Board Meeting, the Board will consider the formation of a workgroup to develop and execute a variety of activities which will highlight the history of the MCDA and how the Association has changed over those 40 years.

The John Lynch Award

It is now time for the presentation of the John Lynch Award– our club’s most prestigious award.
