WHAT’S NEW FOR DATAMINE STUDIO EM V2.0

Studio EM is the complete solution for geological interpretation and analysis for exploration.

This Major Version Update delivers a wide range of benefits. Whether you’re upgrading from the previous version of Studio EM or Downhole Explorer, this update is packed with features, including a

complete overhaul of the user interface and the implementation of ribbons which categorizes

commands intelligently to make sure you have the tools you need as quickly as you need them.

This update also contains improvements to the 3D window including improved management of sections and multiple views. For Downhole Explorer users upgrading to Studio EM the ability to

visualise your projects in the 3D window as well as in the plot sheets is a huge advantage.

Main Messages for Datamine Studio EM v2.0

New!! Task-focussed Ribbons Studio EM presents functionality in task-focussed groups of functions using a ribbon-based interface. The grouping has been designed to provide easy access to commands that relate to particular tasks such as sample analysis, structural interpretation and reporting, whilst ensuring commonly-used functions are accessible at all times.

New!! Unified Navigation Toolbar You can now use the same set of commands to manage and navigate your data, whichever data window you decide to use.

New!! 3D Window Formatting Templates Maximize the potential of your 3D environment using new 3D window formatting templates. Instantly set up default display formatting for all of your object types and transfer information seamlessly between Plots and 3D templates.

New!! External 3D Visualization Windows In addition to the powerful new tools available in the 3D window, you can also separate one or more 3D windows into floating windows, no longer bound to the external frame of the parent application – perfect for multiple monitor setups!

New!! Extended recognised file types Manage and find your project data more easily with Studio’s extended list of categorised file types. In addition to recognising 3D data automatically Studio EM categorizes files such as volume report and statistics output files.

New!! New Processes and Process Improvements New server processes are available in this version, including:

• MODSPLIT: split a Datamine cell/subcell model in just one step using an input wireframe to create a new model that is constrained by the wireframe.

• REBLOCK: re-block a model by specifying new X, Y and Z parent cell sizes. The origin of the model remains unchanged.

• SWATHPLT: create data files that are suitable for automatically creating swath plots in Studio or Excel

• TONGRAD: several improvements, including support for absent grade and density values, additive fields can be specified and output of data to plot a tonnage-grade curve is now available. Find out more in your online Help.

• TRIFIL: you can now set a parameter to indicate a rotated model is being used as an input.

• TRIVAL: run this process more rapidly by opting to omit internal surface checking and/or checking for DTM overlaps. A ZONE field is also supported in this update.

• PITMOD: you can now specify an alternative origin and/or bench height.

• STATS: a new PCNTILES parameter is now available to calculate percentiles and the Median Absolute Deviation. The 50% percentile is the median.

The coefficient of variation and mid-range values are now always calculated.

The KEYSORT parameter can be used to automatically sort the input file on its key fields, removing the need to manually sort the input file before using STATS. The SORTOUT parameter can be used to automatically sort the output file by FIELD. This makes it much easier to compare the statistics of fields across different key fields, for example grades within different rock types.

• SLIMOD and PERFIL: now automatically output models sorted on IJK. In addition, PERFIL now supports a CHECKROT parameter to automatically check for an input rotated model.

• COUNT: COUNT now has an optional KEYSORT parameter which can be used to automatically sort the input file on its key fields before processing.

New!! Extended Sheets Control Bar By popular demand, the Sheets control bar has been extended to provide functionality previously only available via the Loaded Data control bar. This allows you to manage your loaded data connections, organize your visual formatting and create overlays for 3D objects, all from the same place. Non-visual objects such as assay tables, evaluation results and other tabular information will still be managed using the existing Loaded Data bar functions. The sheets bar also now features smart display routines: automatically showing details for the current view and hiding details of the views not being used, reducing screen clutter and displaying only relevant information.

New!! Wireframe Clean Function The new wireframe-clean command provides a set of options which can be used to fix many problems in wireframes found as a result of the Verify command.

New!! Quick Filters A new “Quick Filter” function allows you to rapidly define filters which can be used to hide or show loaded data with the minimum of fuss. You can select one or more bins in a selected legend and your 3D scene will update automatically

New!! 3D Window Section Manager Load and edit section definition files quickly and easily. With a loaded section definition file, you can now access the details of each section contained within it, using new functionality provided via the Sheets control bar. You can easily move from one section to the next or jump straight to any section, and can create, edit and remove section definitions interactively, with full respect to how that section is positioned in 3D space.

New!! 3D Section ‘Widgets’ Section manipulation has never been easier with the 3D window’s interactive section editor, a context-sensitive display of editing controls that allow you to adjust the elevation, dip and rotation of your section in real time, with all data clipping settings honoured throughout.

New!! Cursor Tooltips User-configurable system prompts and information, traditionally displayed in the Status Bar, can now (optionally) be displayed alongside your cursor. This allows you to keep your eyes focused on your data and still be sure what Studio EM is expecting next in terms of input.

New!! Automatically Generate Section Maps Studio EM allows you to drag and drop geo-referenced section images into the 3D view and automatically assemble them into a contextually-accurate display.

New!! Generate a “World File” For Draped Images You can generate a georeferenced world file automatically, based on your current image draping settings in the 3D window.

New!! “Cell-accurate” wireframe block model colouring Wireframes may now be coloured using the values from a reference block model, with colouring shown accurately to the detail of the model cells. This can be used for many different applications such as outcropping through and 3D fence diagrams.

Studio EM Projects – Important Information

Studio EM will only create extended-precision projects (but it can create both single-

and extended-precision data files)

Studio EM cannot create Downhole Explorer (.dhx) or Present (.epr) files (but it can

read them)

Single-precision and extended-precision data files continue to be supported and can be both

created and loaded in Studio EM. It is the project file itself that will be saved as extended-

precision by Studio EM 2.0 – it will not be possible to save a single precision project.

Scenarios and FAQs

• I’m loading a .dhx project into Studio EM – what will happen to it?

Your project file (but not any associated data) will be automatically converted to an

extended-precision Studio EM project when it is next saved. Your existing data files

(associated with the original Downhole Explorer project) will be loaded as expected and

unchanged, and you will still be able to maintain the single-precision status of your data

files throughout your session if you wish.

• Studio EM has converted my project file to Extended-precision, will I be able to load it

into Downhole Explorer

No. Datamine products do not provide backwards-compatibility for previous versions,

even with regards to the same product.

• Does Studio EM have a dedicated project file extension?

Yes. Studio EM uses an ‘.emproj’ file extension. Other members of the Studio family

also have (or will have) dedicated project file extensions such as .rmproj, .opproj and

.ugproj.

• If I create a data table from scratch in Studio EM, can I save it as a single precision file?

Yes, you can save your data tables in memory as either single- or extended-precision.

• Can I save a single-precision project using Studio EM?

No. All projects saved in Studio EM will be extended-precision.

• Can I load single-precision files into a Studio EM project?

Yes, your Studio EM project will support both single- and extended-precision file formats

and no conversion will take place unless you deliberately perform it.

• Can I save single-precision files in Studio EM?

Yes. You still have the option to output your Datamine data as either single- or

extended-precision formats.

• Can I load projects from other Studio products (e.g. Studio OP, Studio 5D Planner) into

Studio EM, and will their precision status be maintained?

You can load other project files from the Studio family into Studio EM, but if they are

single-precision, they will be automatically converted to extended-precision when they

are saved. Note that you will only be able to save your project in a Studio EM format.

• Does Studio EM support the import of projects from InTouch?

Yes, it does.

• Can I load a Studio EM project in Studio RM, Studio OP or Studio UG?

Yes, you can.

• Right….what about if I save data from Studio EM (SP or EP) – can I load those data files

back into Studio 3, Downhole Explorer or any other application that supports the loading

of Datamine binary files?

For this version of Studio EM, yes. There are no plans to change the Datamine binary

table format, and it remains a standard between all Studio products, including those

previously produced (e.g. Studio 3).

STUDIO-3347 Bug An issue preventing a macro from being called from another macro has been resolved.

STUDIO-1019 Bug

An issue resulting in the incorrect volume reported by TRIVOL where multi-word key

fields were used has been resolved. In addition, new parameters are supported to

improve the performance of this process by specifying that internal surface checking

is or isn’t required (NOSID) and a similar parameter has been invoked to allow

checking of DTM overlaps to be performed or not (DTM).

TRIVOL also now supports ZONE fields of up to 10 characters long.

Records with absent ZONE values are counted and reported as a warning but a

volume is still calculated for absent ZONES.

The name of the input triangle file to TRIVOL is now recorded in an implicit field in

the output results file produced by TRIVOL.

STUDIO-978 Feature An option has been added to TONGRAD to automatically assign 0 for absent grades

STUDIO-832 Bug SLIMOD no longer fails with a parent-cell-only model.

STUDIO-821 Bug TRIVOL no longer reduces alphanumeric fields to a maximum of 8 characters

STUDIO-629 Feature A new command – MIKSCELL – has been implemented to convert MIK results into

sub-cells.

CORE-1205 Bug The issue preventing macro access from a RUN menu (.men) has been resolved.

CORE-1163 Bug An issue preventing the removal of temporary files from the project folder has been

resolved.

CORE-1157 Bug It is now possible to remove the last vertex of a points file in the Sheets control bar

without forcing the system to halt unexpectedly.

CORE-1008 Bug Retrieval criteria issues have been resolved for several server processes, including

OUTPUT.

CORE-851 Task

TRIVAL can now deal with alpha keyfields (multiple words) and handle rotated

models using the new @CHECKROT parameter. In addition, the process can be

made more rapid by enabling the @NOSID parameter to disable the checking of

internal surfaces.

CORE-850 Feature

TRIFIL will now automatically handle rotated models using a new parameter:

CHECKROT: This can be set to 1 to automatically detect and correctly process

rotated models. Using this parameter means that the input wireframe points file

no longer needs to be transformed into the model space before using TRIFIL. The

default value is 0. This means that any existing macros that already transform the

wireframe points file will still work as in Studio 3.

CORE-839 Bug Several updates have been applied to TONGRAD

CORE-796 Bug New-string no longer resets the COLOUR pallet in the Design/3D Window

CORE-790 Feature The 3D window “snap to wireframes” option, when enabled, will now honour both

snap to line and snap to points mode settings when a wireframe slice is displayed.

CORE-789 Feature A new command - MODSPLIT - has been implemented to provide the ability to easily

create models within wireframes.

CORE-749 Feature PITMOD now supports @ZORIG and @BHEIGHT parameters to be used to optionally

define an alternative origin and bench height.

CORE-747 Bug EXTRA will now inform you if specified alpha fields are deemed too wide

CORE-716 Feature

You can now create a tonnage grade curve even more easily in Studio EM using the

enhanced TONGRAD command. Changes to TONGRAD include:

Fields to be treated as additive can now be specified (using *ADDF1 to *ADDF20).

This is useful to provide a summary of total costs or revenues by keyfields in addition

to just grades.

Absent grades are now allowed in the input file. If a grade field has an absent record

the default value is used. If the default value is absent then a value of zero is used.

Absent density values are now allowed in the input file. If a record has an absent

density value the parameter value for @DENSITY is used.

An output file containing cumulative values for cutoffs can now be specified and used

to draw grade and tonnage charts.

Grade field names containing a "-" character are now supported when using cut off

grade steps.

The @TRENAME parameter can be used to change the output field name of TONNES

to reflect the use of the @FACTOR parameter.

In some cases when the size of the model origin was relatively large TONGRAD would

report an error - this is now resolved.

CORE-710 Story A new command - REBLOCK - has been implemented to provide the ability to reblock

a block model

CORE-706 Feature PROPER has been extended to provide support for creating a centre point within a

closed string.

CORE-697 Bug Visualization of the CMDH indicator is now honouring drill hole traces for curved holes
