Musical Performance

Florante Aguilar and Lori AbucayanIf the history of a culture is told through its mu-sic, then Filipino-Americans, Florante Aguilar andLori Abucayan are orators of their age. While atall times retaining a respect for tradition, theguitarist and singer duo have successfully rein-terpreted traditional folk music from their home-

land and made it accessible for a whole new global audience. Their well-received recent album Paraiso deftly illustrates that spirit.

Florante Aguilar and Lori Abucayan first began their musical collaboration in2003 where they met at a fundraiser event at UC Davis. Florante's guitarmusic was the main attraction, while Lori hosted the event and sang oneTagalog song midway through the program. It seemed this musical duo wasdestined to cross paths since Florante has been searching for a singer torecord an album full of rearranged classic Filipino songs. Upon hearing Lorising a heartfelt rendition of the classic Dahil Sa Iyo, Florante immediatelythought "That's the singer I've been looking for! Lori was thrilled to be giventhe opportunity not only to sing and perform but also learn about her cultureand its history through music.

Tax Deferral: who benefits most…you or the IRS?

A qualified plan or IRA may be a great tax break for you—now, while you’re alive. But after you’re gone, so is the break. Estate taxes and income taxes together can deplete over 60% of your tax-deferred savings, leaving little to provide for those who depend on you most. Cristobal & Associates can help you and your advisors design tax and investment strategies to preserve more for your family—and less for the IRS.
