Fish Farming at Narsinghpur, Purnapani, RSC- 10, 11 & 19

Essar Foundation distributed 16,000 fingerlings to the fish farmers of Chitrakonda block for fish farming in their ponds of Indian Major carps- Rohu, Katla, Mrigal, Grass carp and Silver Carp for 9 ponds of 5 core villages of our intervention area. These beneficiaries are from Purnapani, Narsinghpur, RSC- 10, RSC- 11 and RSC- 19 villages. The objective behind this project was to strengthen their socio-economic condition by providing alternate sources of income. In continuation to this, fish feed was distributed with the support of district Fisheries Department. It had being observed that most of the fish cultivators did not feed their fish sufficiently due to which the growth of the fish was not up to the mark. An awareness camp was organized by Essar Foundation to inform the farmers how to detect disease in fishes and also on how to boost fish growth. In continuation, with the support of fisheries department fish feed, storage basket and medicines have been provided to fish farmers. Essar Foundation has earlier started the fish farming project at RSC – 11 by distribution of fingerlings to the fish farmers of Chitrakonda as a part of our livelihood development initiative. As monsoon was nearing, the members of the SHG planned to harvest the fish and sell in local market. With proper instructions, farmers harvested 84.7 kg fish from the pond. It was so fresh, that they managed to sell it immediately in the village itself. They sold 53 kg fish in their own villagers and remaining they sold to outsiders for Rs. 120 per kg and earned Rs. 10,200/-. This earning will definitely create more interest among the other villagers and they may also think of starting fish farming as an alternate means of livelihood

Promotion of Livelihood through Organic vegetable cultivation at Narsinghpur Village of

Chitrakonda

Narsinghpur village has been provided advanced agricultural equipment by Essar. With these

Installation of Hand pumps at Chitrakonda

Modern hand-operated community pumps are considered the most sustainable low-cost option for safe water supply in resource-poor settings, often in rural areas. A hand pump opens access to deeper groundwater that is often not polluted and also improves the safety of a well by protecting the water source from contaminated buckets. On the request of villagers of Chitrakonda initially 11 sites were identified for the bore-well. After completing the geological survey, 18 bores were drilled and Hand pump installation completed except platform construction ongoing, the average 250 feet dept. This has benefitted around 1700 beneficiaries.

Repair of Hand pumps at Chitrakonda area In remote areas like Malkangiri, the water needs are largely being met by hand pumps. Nineteen hand pumps were repaired in 34 villages, 52 Hand pump of Chitrakonda block. An initial survey was done and based on the problem the repair work was done. More than 4000 villagers have been benefitted.

principally of sucrose. In Kalepal villages the preparation for

juice extraction from tree has been started with the support

of villagers for jaggery preparation. This jaggery is

processed without any chemicals or artificial ingredients.

So, it is a healthy and natural sweetener. It is prepared from
