ELCOME TO OUR ANNUAL CONFERENCE: CHALLENGING TOPICS IN OB/GYN an expanded annual conference from the University of Illinois Department of Obstetrics and

Gynecology. We have invited several nationally and internationally-recognized faculty to give state-of-the-art lectures on challenging clinical problems such as pregnancy of unknown location (PUL),

abnormal uterine bleeding, vulvar lesions, optimal management of labor, and gynecologic cancers. In addition, several of our own faculty and others from the University campus have been invited to present case-based lectures.

As in years past, we are pleased to host the 8th Annual Antonio Scommegna, MD Symposium and the 13th Annual Laird Wilson Jr, PhD Symposium. We are proud to continue honoring these two extraordinary clinician-scientists whose careers were committed to improving women’s reproductive and obstetrical care.

This year, we have added two new symposia. The Gynecology Symposium features the first Charles Sumner Bacon, MD Lectureship. Dr. Bacon was the first Department Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and was instrumental in the University of Illinois’ acquisition of the College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1913, resulting in the establishment of the University of Illinois College of Medicine. The Gynecologic Oncology Symposium focuses on cervical cancer, cancer in pregnancy, along with an update on evaluation of hereditary cancer syndromes.

I look forward to reuniting with colleagues, friends, and providers from throughout the state and beyond, and meeting with our alumni. Our Department has undergone major physical renovations this year and we look forward to giving you a tour and discussing future plans. Mark your calendars, and I hope to see you soon,

Mary Stephenson, MD, MScProfessor & HeadUIC Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology
