Strategic Planning:
Planning the initiation of new members for the coming year and accompanying banquet.
Fundraising event (Bake Sale); a requirement to receive allocated funds from USJ’s Student Government Association
Establishment of annual newsletter publication that represents the USJ School of Pharmacy. It will be primarily organized by Rho Chi Epsilon Alpha
Chapter with collaboration of faculty, students, preceptors, and alumni.
Activities:
Tutoring Service – Continued Initiative – A tutoring service where P2 members (Rho Chi members) are made available to other students for academic
support in various areas. We established a tutor coordinator and e-mail service to set up students in need. A survey was sent out in the beginning of the
semester to inquire about where students are struggling, what type of environment they study in, and how interested they were in receiving course tutoring.
About 50 hours were spent tutoring lecture material and revising term papers for the P1 students. It was shown that the average grade increase was 6.8
points for those that received tutoring for term papers.
Annual School Publication – Continued Initiative - The chapter’s newsletter subcommittee has planned and organized the publication of an annual
newsletter publication to represent the USJ School of Pharmacy. It will include student and faculty achievements, student activities and organizations,
academic topics, specific student biographies, and article publications from student organizations. We will be collaborating with the other school
organizations, Dr. Joseph Ofosu, Dean of the School of Pharmacy, and the school's marketing department.
Community Service – New Initiative – The chapter worked with Building Healthy Families, located in Manchester, CT. A patient take-home hand out
was created based on the presentation given to attendees. Students educated 16 parents of young children about OTC medication safety and product
selection, proper oral dosing, and medication administration tips.
Fundraising Events – New Initiative – To fundraise, the Rho Chi members homemade baked goods to sell during exam week to P1 and P2 students. We
were able to raise $72 for our organization.
Financial/Budgeting:
This year’s budget and dues structure was developed by our chapter treasurer and adopted by current membership. Chapter funding has been achieved
through collection of chapter dues, the induction ceremony, and budget appropriation from USJ Student Government Association.
Initiation Function:
The initiation took place on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at the Pond House Cafe in Elizabeth Park, located in West Hartford, CT. In attendance were
numerous Rho Chi members from various initiation years, friends and family, faculty, and representatives from the various other organizations from the
USJ School of Pharmacy.
Evaluation/Reflection:
Rho Chi Epsilon Alpha has been able to achieve steady growth in its 3 years of existence. We continue to make great strides with the creation of our first
USJ School of Pharmacy Annual Newsletter, and involvement in various community service events. We established a new relationship with Building
Healthy Families and look forward to more events with them. Additionally, we maintained success we achieved in previous years with services such as our
tutoring program. We anticipate further growth and involvement in subsequent years.
