I. ENGLISH
The following were enjoined by the school in improving English language as of school program of activities for English and extra- curricular momentum to improve English proficiency.
1. 34th Metro Manila Young Writers Conference and Contests
a. District Level
The 34th MMYWCC for the district level was held at Serrano Elementary School on October 14, 2013. Mrs. Mary Joy J. Salonga and Danielmar S. Dy were the journalism advisers of the 16 selected and trained pupils in our school. Our school won in four (4) different categories such as copyreading and headlining, pagsulat ng lathalain, photojournalism and editorial cartooning.
b. Division Level
The division level was held at Serrano Elementary School, October 17-18. Fortunately, three (3) of our pupils won again and were qualified to compete on the Regional level.
c. Regional Level
The regional level was held at Paranaque National High School last October 2013. Our pupils were not able to make it to the NSPC but reaching up to this level was really a great and unforgettable experience.
2. Official Organ of Dona Ata Elementary School
The official Organ of the school was organized as early as June 2013 for a school year round activities. The organization serves as the area of training for young journalists in career. School paper staffs gathered, created and drafted their own-made articles. The final issue of the Kidlat Patrol was finally published last February 2014.
3. Demo Caravan in English for Gr. Two Teachers
The Demo Caravan in English aimed to demonstrate how effective are K to 12 teaching materials and learning guides for pupils. Division Supervisors together with the principal consultants assigned topics to be used in the demonstration teaching. Each school had two teacher participants in the demo teaching.
4. Seminars and Trainings
The following were the seminars and trainings attended by the teachers and/or pupils of Dona Ata Elementary School.
a. Division Training on Journalism
The training was conducted in Valenzuela City Library Hub in Dalandanan, Valenzuela City last November 2013. This training aims to sharpen the skills of Division Level winners in journalism.
b. Division Training on Collaborative Publishing and Radio Broadcasting
The training was held at Vicente P. Trinidad National High School last November 2013. This training orients young journalists to collaborative publishing and radio broadcasting.
II. Reading
1. Phil- IRI
The Phil- IRI was conducted in a year-round reading practices. Interventions to increase the pupils reading performances were measured through pre-test and post-test. Pre-tests of oral reading were accomplished on July 2013, and October 2013 for silent reading. Post-tests were administered on January 2014. The outcome were interpreted and tabulated for the school reading profile and consolidated for district and division file.
2. Remedial Reading
The Remedial Reading is conducted by classroom advisers all throughout the year. Pupils with reading difficulties were diagnosed and will be included in the remedial reading conducted after class. This intervention is a way to lessen the difficulty of pupils in reading especially in English.
