INTRODUCTION TO SDPS

SDPS was formed in 1995 from a single idea: process. The fact that this concept is observed in so many different disciplines and that process philosophy has heralded its importance since antiquity, gave rise to the idea that there may be something very fundamental yet to be discovered by science.

It appears the process concept could establish a broadly applicable abstrac-tion on which to base the future of knowledge integration and dissem-ination at a formal level for a wide array of disciplines. The result could yield new science, new products, business innovation, and new solutions that address the complex problem sets of the future.

Each year, SDPS sponsors an international conference that attracts hundreds of leaders in science and engineering. SDPS membership includes a diverse group of inter-national experts across a broad expanse of scientific and engineering disciplines. SDPS conferences are unique in that they are designed to bring forth leading ideas that are transformative in character—ideas that may radically change our thinking.

SMART INNOVATIVE SOCIETIES

Smart Innovative Societies represent those special regions around the world that are moving toward the adoption of integrated technology and science. These societies enjoy the benefits of technology to improve the lives of their inhabitants while remaining harmonious with natural environments. They respect the beneficent cultures and traditions that developed from their unique history.

These societies readily join with other such regions around the world to form numerous symbiotic combinatorial relationships that enhance and extend these benefits to others. They realize that future problems and opportunities must address the massive complexity and “inter-connectedness” of what are now termed "unstructured, complex problem sets." Such issues cannot be resolved solely with the divided know-ledge of the disciplines.

Knowledge integration, at a scientific level, becomes paramount in this new age of integration. That is why SDPS was formed; to provide an international professional society for advanced integrative thinkers to participate in the emergence of this new era.

INVITATION

SDPS 2014 Malaysia is the 19th International Conference on Transformative Research in Science and Engineering, Business and Social Innovation. We invite all industries, governments, educational and research institutions, entrepreneurs, engineers, artists, managers, medical professionals, sociologists, educators, scientists and practitioners to parti-cipate in the development of a social, technological, and cultural trans-formation that leads to the complex development of Smart Innovative Societies; societies that enjoy the benefits of integrated science and technology while preserving their beneficent cultural traits and natural environments.

SDPS 2014 KEYNOTES

Mr. Goh founded the Silverlake group in 1989. Based on his foresight on the future of technology demands of the Banking industry, Silverlake has been established as a leading provider of state-of-the-art universal banking solutions. Today, the group is a multi-billion dollar organization, represented in over 36 countries spanning from Japan to Australia, with a staff force of approximately 5,000 worldwide. In December 2013, Digital News Asia estimated that Goh is probably the first software billionaire (USD) in Southeast Asia. Through Goh's vision, the group has won important awards including the prestigious Forbes Best Of The Best Award (2013).

Goh still remains actively involved in the academics of Science and Mathematics, subjects that he has always been very keen in. His academic-related accomplishments include: Research on Science of Intelligence and its application on Human Action and Economy; Building the Silverlake group based on the Silverlake Collaborative Intelligence and Innovation Model; Giving talks in various schools of higher learning in the region. Mr. Goh will speak about "Executing Excellence Through Group And Category Theory." It is indeed a privilege to welcome Mr. Goh to SDPS 2014 Malaysia.

Dr. Zadeh invented, pioneered, and lead the deployment of a diverse group of concepts, including his own fuzzy logic, to create new, indelible branches of mathematics, engineering and computing. In 1952, he pioneered, with John R. Ragazzini, the development of the Z-transform method in discrete time signal processing. In 1965 he published, Fuzzy Sets, followed 8 years later with the foundations of Fuzzy Logic, which ultimately became a significant part of engineering design around the world and revolutionized control theory. He continued in 1993 with his pioneering efforts to build the multi-discipline of Soft Computing and Computing with Words. His original paper on Fuzzy Sets remains one of the most cited papers in all of scientific literature. He has won numerous international awards for his work. Dr. Zadeh has prepared a special video presentation for SDPS 2014. We welcome Dr. Zadeh as our headline keynote speaker.

Dr. C.V. Ramamoorthy is a true pioneer of the discipline of software engineering as evidenced by his many distinguished awards including both the IEEE Centennial and IEEE Third Millennium Medals. In 2010, SDPS honored him with its highest award in Software Engineering. the SES Transformative Achievement Award. Dr. Ramamoorthy is a founding Board member and current Chairman of the Board of SDPS. He has been the guiding mentor for generations of SDPS members and contributors.

His major research interest is the field of Software and System Interoperability, Component and Service Oriented Architectures, Medical Informatics, and intelligent programmable spaces. His latest works are in the field of ontological engineering, semantic models of social and learning collaborations, social semantic web and semantic enterprise with social media computing. We welcome Dr. Ramamoorthy, to SDPS 2014 Malaysia.

In 2009, Datuk Torstein was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sarawak Energy Berhad, Malaysia. He steers this fully integrated utility company, responsible for development, generation, transmission, distribution, and retail delivery of electricity to over 570,000 customers throughout the state of Sarawak.

Under Torstein's leadership, Sarawak Energy has achieved a remarkable transformation to become a modern and agile corporation; to meet the needs of the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy; and to deliver a tenfold increase in the State's electrical output in just over a decade. To meet future demand, Sarawak Energy is on track to become a regional powerhouse in ASEAN, developing both hydroelectric projects and gas and coal fired plants.

In 2012, Torstein was presented with the 'Most Influential Clean Energy Advocate' award at the 15th Power and Electricity World Asia Conference held in Singapore. It is a great honor to welcome Datuk Torstein to SDPS 2014 Malaysia.

WELCOME: Ph.D STUDENTS

SDPS welcomes PhD research students and invites them to submit short papers or extended abstracts for the SDPS PhD Symposium.

Our goal is to ensure that PhD students publicly debate their research goals and results and have them commented on, and evaluated by, an international audience.

We welcome interdisciplinary Ph.D research and look forward to receiving symposium submissions from a broad range of disciplines, which span science, business and management, engineering, art and humanities.

Ph.D students at all stages of their research are welcome, but students who already have a clear vision of their own research contribution will be given priority in this selection.

All submissions to the symposium will be peer reviewed and included in the Proceedings of SDPS 2014.
