Sounds like Jesus is all about “new.” This is good news for us as we are now part of Faith Fellowship, a brand-spanking new church. The old still lingers with us – in our property and furnishings, in our people and friends, and in our habits. As the saying goes, “Old habits die hard.” And this is true. When was the last time you tried to change an old habit? They are difficult to shake.

21Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.
2And I saw the holy city, the
new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
3And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “See,
the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them as their God; they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them;
4he will wipe every tear from
their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away.”
5And the one who was seated on the throne
said, “See, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this, for these words are trustworthy and true.” Revelation 21:1-5
Jesus says, “See, I am making all things new.” This reminds me of
2 Corinthians 5:17-20
17
So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!
18All this is
from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation;
19that is, in Christ God was
reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us.
20So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his
appeal through us; we entreat you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.
Cont. on p. 2
But Jesus makes things new – a new creation, a new heart, a new
attitude, a new Jerusalem. He is renewing us too. He is opening our hearts to him, to hear only him, to follow only him, to seek only him. What’s new about that? Isn’t that the way it always is, or, at least, should be? Of course it should always be that way; but, of course, it is not always that way.
When we fall into routines we repeat the same behaviors, we begin to feel comfortable, and secure. But Jesus is always changing us, renewing us, calling us to step out. It’s not comfortable to step out. Remember, like Peter, IF we step out of the boat we might sink. This is true. But, like Peter, Jesus is there to catch us. So we listen for God, we go where he bids us to go and we step out in Faith. We step out forming New habits, in a New church with a New attitude and a New direction. God’s will be done, Amen.

Scriptures & Prayers for Students, Teachers and Staff
as they return to school:
Proverbs 1:1-7 1The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of
Israel:
2For learning about wisdom and instruction,
for understanding words of insight, 3for gaining instruction in wise dealing,
righteousness, justice, and equity; 4to teach shrewdness to the simple,
knowledge and prudence to the young— 5let the wise also hear and gain in learning,
and the discerning acquire skill, 6to understand a proverb and a figure,
the words of the wise and their riddles. 7The fear of the LORD is
the beginning of knowledge;
fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Philippians 4:6-7 6Do not worry about anything, but in everything
by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be
made known to God. 7And the peace of God, which surpasses all
understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ
Jesus.
Colossians 3:23 23
Whatever your task, put yourselves into it, as done for the Lord and not for your masters,
Romans 12:2 2Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern
what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Lord, we ask your blessing, your favor on those returning to school. Some will go into classrooms, some will learn
remotely, but the importance of learning is the same. We pray for good learning skills, for caring teachers, and sup-
portive parents and friends. Also, we ask your favor upon teachers and professors as they teach in new ways and
struggle to make things work for their students. Guide them with wisdom, peace and the support they need. In Je-
sus’ holy name we pray, Amen.
