Bedtime Prayer The primary faith guides for the children of our congregation are parents and grandparents.

We are asking that whoever puts the children to bed in your household take 5 to 7 minutes

each evening.

Our suggestion for when they are in bed:

l. Ask them for a happy thing from the day. Rejoice with them, briefly.

2. Ask them if there was a sad thing. Grieve with them, briefly.

3. Read a scripture verse. Psalm 16:8-9 My spirit rejoices and my body will rest in hope.

You show me the path of life and in your presence God there is joy.

4. Pray for your child. A suggestion: “Dear Jesus, we thank you for the joy you give to ( ). Keep him/her

safe all night so that she/he may rest in the sure and certain hope we all have in you. Amen.”

5. Gently place your hand on your child and say. "I love you very much. May the Lord bless you all night long.

Good night."

Youth News

Nate Ediger [email protected] 419.651.3956 Ann Jacobs [email protected] 567.203.7494 Corinne Aebersold [email protected] 419.606.4494

Raving about Rake-n-Run! What a blessing Rake-n-Run was this Year! Over 70 youth and 30 adult volunteers com-

pleted 31 yards and the entire church grounds! Members of the Circle of Friends, Home-

builders, and Traders Sunday School classes had a big day too, helping with some of the lar-

ger properties. After a week of rain from Hurricane Sandy, we ended up with a beautiful day

to serve members of our church and community. We extend a special thanks to the McClures

for offering to host our “after party” this year. Even though it ended up too soggy to have a bonfire and hay-

ride, we had a great time at our “back-up plan” with dinner and dodgeball/sardines at the church this year.

Thanks again to all the youth, adult crew leaders, and kitchen crew who were so willing to “give what they

had” (Acts 3:6) to make this day such a success… and so much fun!

This Sunday, November 11...

Sunday School

We hope you’ll join us every Sunday at 9:30am in the Youth Area!!!

• Middle Schoolers plan on joining Ann Jacobs, Dave McClure, and Ben VanScoy again this

Sunday as you continue your fall series, A Faith of My Own.

• High Schoolers plan on joining Kari Emmons, Jacob Moss, and Jen Ediger for a thought-

provoking and challenging study, Battlefield of the Mind.

Catechism

Today, Nov. 11, from 3:00-7:00pm: 7th and 8th graders, plan on joining us for our sec-

ond session of Catechism—the topic is “Disruption.” We will be heading outside for part

of the session, which is why we are meeting a little earlier than usual. Plan on dressing

for the weather (bring a coat)! As always, if you cannot attend, please contact the Youth

Office in advance. If you have not paid for meals for the year please bring $3.00 for din-

ner.

This Wednesday, November 14...

Mosaic

Wednesdays from 5:30-7:15pm: All 7-12th

graders are invited to Mosaic Ministry. The

Youth Area opens at 5:30 for fun and fellowship. Around 6:15, gather as a large group

and then with your D-group—we’re checking out the lives of some of God’s people who

lived “dangerous lives” of faith!

Next Sunday, November 18…

CSM Chicago Registration Deadline

All of the spaces for this trip have been filled! High Schoolers still hoping to attend should contact Ann

Jacobs by Sunday, November 18, to be added to our cancellation/waiting list.

LARRY ORRELL TO BE GLARRY ORRELL TO BE GLARRY ORRELL TO BE GLARRY ORRELL TO BE GUEST MUSICIANUEST MUSICIANUEST MUSICIANUEST MUSICIAN Gospel musician and evangelist Larry Orrell will return as guest musician at Trinity during the Saturday night folk service on November 17 at 6:30 p.m. Considered one of America’s great Gospel singers, Orrell appeals to young and old alike, pre-senting familiar sacred hymns to inspirational selections to the up-tempo sounds of today. As a soloist Orrell has appeared on such national talk shows as the 700 Club and 100 Huntley Street. He often joined forces with singers Terry Blackwood, Chuck Sullivan and Stephen Wright in the group “Friends IV.” Orrell has served on the boards of directors of the Gospel Music Association and the Southern Gospel Music Guild. For three decades he has been a producer of Christian events in major venues in a number of cities. For more information on Mr. Orrell, please see www.larryorrell.com.

Our annual Thanksgiving Service, featuring seasonal music, communion and a message, is Wednesday, November 21, at 7 p.m. Special music will be presented by the Choir, the Trinity Brass, the Preschool Choir, and Luther Bells. Pastor Jeff Mess-ner will deliver the sermon. Our worship will have a “harvest home” theme as we thank God for the many benefits we have received. The celebration of Holy Communion around the table of the Lord will help center our

thoughts as we gather around our own tables on Thanksgiving Day. We encourage families with children to attend and for all worshippers to bring cans of food or other supplies for the Ashland County Food Bank. They will be collected by the children as part of the children’s sermon. Please plan to attend and bring a friend or visiting relative. Child care will be provided.

Honoring our Trinity Troops at Christmas

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our Truth Seekers Class Project. We want to send Wal-Mart gift cards to each of our Trinity soldiers. We also suggest that you remember them as you send your Christmas cards this year. A list of names and addresses will be available in our classroom (Rooms A & B) on Sunday mornings.

Contributions will be accepted until November 25. Please make out your checks to Trinity and write “Truth Seekers Class Project” on the memo line. Questions? Call Rebecca Hum-richouser at 419-869-7271.

L O R A C (Lutherans of Ru-ral Area Congre-gations) is again collecting dona-tions for The Cranks Creek C o n n e c t i o n , which has been servicing the Appa-lachian Area of Harlan County, Kentucky for more than 33 years. Approximately 800 families (3000 people) are provided with fresh vegetables, canned goods, clothes, coats, toys, bicycles, and warm bedding for each family. Trinity members, John & Linda Robinson, will take their 26-foot donated truck down on December 21, with the giveaway on December 23. They are asking for donations from our church family in the way of blankets and bedding (new or used and freshly laundered), pillows (new), and clean linen. The dona-tion containers will be in the hallway by Jack’s Place for the entire month of November. Thank you in advance for your do-nations!

NIKE REUSE A SHOE RESULTS: We col-lected approximately 170 pairs of shoes be-tween our congregation, Ashland YMCA and First Church of the Brethren! We were able to send a few shoes that were still in good shape to the Ashland High School’s clothing drive. This shoe drive helped make a differ-ence for our community and our environ-ment. A BIG Thank You to everyone who helped and everyone who donated shoes!

It’s not too late to join us! Our 28th annual Christmas musical, A Celebration of Carols, will be presented December 15 & 16. The many rehearsals give ample time for people with busy schedules to find time to sing. (You will be able to master the parts if you can make at least half of the practices, but, of course, the more the merrier.) The next scheduled rehearsals are Tuesday, November 13, from 11am to 12noon, Wednesday re-hearsal on November 14, from 8 to 9 p.m., and Thursday, November 15, from 7 to 9p.m. (sectionals) all in the Choir Loft. Stop by the Church Office for a schedule and book, check out the schedule on the church website, or contact Ron Marenchin at the Church Office for more information. (419-289-2126).

COOKING WITH TLC: We have seven cookbooks for sale ($8.00 each). We also have Trinity Christmas cards ($5.00 a packet) with a photograph of the Altar in the Sanctuary. You may purchase these items at the Information Desk or in the Church Office.

MONTESSORI GOOD SHEPHERD PROGRAM FUNDRAISER

In order to help supplement our program and purchase materials for our classroom, we are encouraging you (and your friends and families) to join us in a fundraiser that will last from now through December 31. This fundraiser is through a Montessori materials organization called "For Small Hands." You and your family and friends can purchase old fashioned, hands-on, simple toys (without batteries) and Montessori materials for your home (they make excellent Christmas gifts!) and 10% of your purchase comes back to the Good Shep-herd Program in the form of credit for us to purchase materials--it's a win-win!!

Please check out the website at: http://www.forsmallhands.com/ and make sure that when you order you (and others ordering) use keycode: 339921 and fill in the "Montessori Good Shepherd" in the school section, in or-der for our particular program to receive credit!

You can find more details by going to Trinity’s website at www.trinityashland.org.

TRINITY TRAVELERS INVITE YOU TO JOIN THEM FOR A CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION

Please mark your calendars for Sunday, December 2, to travel with us to GRACE POLARIS CHURCH in Columbus for the Living Christmas Trees performance. We will enjoy music from many inspiring musicians as well as a drama created and performed by many talented people. The set is 140 feet wide and over 25 feet high. Each living Christmas Tree is made of nearly 5 tons of steel with 11,000 lights on each and is 30 feet tall. Over 600 people put at least 20,000 hours into the performance. What a wonderful way to begin the Advent season! The bus will leave Trinity Lutheran parking lot promptly at 12:30 pm in order to allow for any traffic problems. The performance begins at 2:30 pm and lasts for approximately 2 hours. A buf-fet-style dinner will be awaiting us at Smokey Bones Grill. We have 39 tickets in the reserved section in the middle of the theater. Cost of each ticket is $56 all inclusive and the sign-up sheet is posted on the Trinity Traveler bulletin board next to the church library. Sign up early so, you don’t miss out on a wonderful and moving performance. We should arrive back in Ashland around 8:00 pm. The deadline is November 26 to sign-up! Don’t miss out on a wonderful experience and another day of fun and fellowship with friends.

Please Join Us! Advent begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas Day. It marks the Ad-vent, or the first coming, of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Making an Advent wreath is a great way to prepare the mind and hearts of your family for Jesus' birthday celebration! Trinity welcomes your family to an Advent Workshop. Sunday, December 2, from 5-7 p.m. in Jack’s Place. We will begin at 5 p.m. with a short program, (The Trinity Youth Choir and Beacon After School Kids) followed by a meal, and then continue on with various crafts for the children and the opportunity for your family to make a beautiful Advent wreath with live greenery and hand-rolled candles. A freewill donation will be taken to cover the cost of the meal and materials. In order for us to have enough materials and food, we ask that res-ervations for the workshop be made no later than Monday, November 26. Please contact the Church Office at 419-289-2126 for more information or to sign up. You may also email Dawn Forbes at [email protected]
