KOL NIDRE APPEAL Dear Ohav Emeth members, As we approach the High Holidays we reflect on the past year and look forward to what we hope will

be a better year to come. This past year has been different to say the least. We started off the year

celebrating our first Rosh Hashana/Yom Kippur in our beautifully renovated building. It was a won-

derful time full of fervent prayers, good energy, and optimism about the year to come.

Our shul has been hard at work serving the drastically changing needs of our congregants. We

worked to improve our security to ensure the safety of all. Changes were made to our youth groups

to introduce our children to the idea of davening with a minyan. Membership events were planned

in order to bring our membership together more frequently in a community setting.

Then Covid hit and our whole world changed. We needed to close our doors in order to keep you

safe. The swift work of our community to promote proper behavior in the face of the pandemic kept

us safe from serious harm. Since we have had the opportunity to once again open our doors our shul

has taken every necessary precaution and action to protect our members. Our HVAC system has

been modified with a system that cleans the air and kills the virus as the air circulates. We have

strictly enforced social distancing and mask-wearing requirements. We have erected tents so that we

can provide services outside for those who prefer it. With all this, we have recognized that many

must daven at home in order to remain safe.

The leadership of the shul has expended much time and effort on behalf of the membership and will

continue to do everything we can to make the shul a place that everybody can be proud to be a part

of. Of course, to do so we need your help. Most of what we do to improve our shul comes at a mone-

tary cost. That is why every year at this time we come to you, our members, and ask for your contin-

ued generous support in order to allow OE to remain vibrant. One of the focal points of our High Hol-

iday prayers is the phrase, ,ותשובה ותפילה וצדקה מעבירין את רוע הגזרהRepentance, Prayer and Charity

remove the evil of the decree. While each of us will work on our repentance and prayer, we must

also take this opportunity to give charity by contributing to the annual Kol Nidre appeal.

This year we are thankful to a generous donor who has offered to match your donations dollar for

dollar up to $50,000 so when you give generously your donation will go twice as far to support our

operating budget and allow us to provide the services and programming that you expect of us.

We urge 100% participation. If you have given in the past and are able to do so, please

consider increasing your donation by 10%. If you have not contributed in the past, please

consider doing so at the highest level that your means allow. We understand that there are

financial constraints and welcome all to donate what they can. No donation is too small.

Thank you in advance for your support. Miriam & I would like to take this opportunity to wish everybody a g’mar chasima tova. Yours truly,

Jay

Jay Dobin, President, Congregation Ohav Emeth

Please note: Important changes

in response to the health emergency This year’s suggested guidelines for

Men’s mikvah and Tashlich.

Mikvah for men:

Many men have the custom of immersing in the Mikvah prior to Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. Due to the health emergency and in effort to

practice responsible caution during the pandemic the RJJ Yeshiva has notified the public that they regret to announce that their men’s Mikvah

will not be open to the public for use this year .

We suggest as a viable alternative ,for those men who wish to maintain this custom ,that they can do so by using the method known as

ט' קבין

(Tisha Kavin/

Literally ;9 Kavin of water)

This can be done easily by any man who simply stands in a shower (with water flow set to the highest water flow) having ones head and body

remain under that same stream of water for 4-5 minutes without interruption.

Tashlich on Rosh Hashana:

Many look forward to the communal recitation of Tashlich, where people join with friends meeting at different Tashlich gathering places . Due

to the health emergency , there will be no communal Tashlich practiced this year .Tashlich should be recited this year privately away from

groups .

Also , please note ,that this year because shabbos is the first day of Rosh Hashana, Tashlich traditionally is than recited on the Second day

of Rosh Hashana. (It can be said even before Mincha on Rosh Hashana. )

Please be aware that if one does not say Tashlich on Rosh Hashana, one can say it anytime ,(except for Shabbos, )before Yom Kippur.

( According to some opinions it can also be said up to and including Hoshana Rabba.)

Wishing all a year filled with Hashem’s blessings and hoping for the return soon of a time we can fulfill joyously together all our sacred tradi-

tions as we had done in the past .

Rabbi Kaufman

Dear Ohav Emeth Family: As we stated previously, our goal this year is to pre-sell all of the Aliyahs and Kibbudim for the Yomim Noraim. As such and specifically for this year, we are significantly reducing the asking price for all Aliyahs and Kibbudim in an effort to accomplish this goal. Some Kibbudim are being eliminated for this year. Many of the items have been sold, however, a significant number still remain. We need to complete the auction shortly. We would ask that you help us in accomplishing this goal by stepping up and indicating your willingness to purchase one or more Aliyahs or Kibbudim. Please do this by filling out the Buy It Now Form and emailing it back to [email protected]. If you are unable to offer the suggested price, please enter the amount you are willing and able to pledge. All reasonable bids will be considered. To discuss this further or If you have any questions please contact the committee at [email protected], or Alan Borck at 732-789-9119 / [email protected] or Steve Stein at 732-539-0069 / [email protected].

The Rabbi, officers, board of directors wish everyone a happy, healthy and successful New Year.

We would like to remind or advise you of a few safeguards, against COVID-19 that have been implemented for the yom tovim.

· We ask that you sit in your assigned seat. The seating committee deserves a hearty Yasher koach for their efforts, especially this year.

· Maintain the machzor you have borrowed from the shul the entire yom tov as if it was your possession. Secure it in your locker, talis bag, or bring it home between services.

· We will expedite services therefore no mishabarachs for family mem-bers will be made, after an aliya.

· The shul will not conduct its customary buy it now auction. Many aliyas are still available for the buy it now price contact, Steve Stein or Alan Bork. If you get an aliya, that was not purchased at the buy it now price, please consider contributing to the Shul

· Additional shofar blowings will take place in the shul parking lot, see the announcements for times.

· Of course, the old rules stay in effect i.e. We ask everyone to wear a mask, and not to congregate after services.

· Please fulfill all your financial commitments to the Shul as soon as possible.

Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.
