Dear Avon Lake Community,
In the coming weeks our school will be partnering with The Pulsera Project, a fair trade nonprofit organization that seeks to empower, inspire, and educate people in Central America and the U.S.
The Pulsera Project provides sustainable, well-paying work opportunities for artists in Nicaragua and Guatemala, most of whom make colorful hand-woven bracelets, or “pulseras” in Spanish. The project then creates a market for their artwork by partnering with schools across the U.S. and reinvests the proceeds in a wide range of community impact programs in Central America.
Pulseras will be sold until October 30, 2020 for $5 through the Spanish Club. You can reserve yours by sending a Venmo payment to @pulseraproject or scanning the code below. Please write “Avon Lake High” as the memo.
Questions? Please contact Natalie Gemelas at (440) 933-6290 Ext. 1231, at [email protected] or feel free to reach out to The Pulsera Project directly at [email protected]
We hope this will be a highlight of the school year as students engage with the beauty of Latin American culture while lending support to these skilled artisans and their communities!
ATTENTION STUDENTS: PLEASE plan to join one of the best clubs in the school…THE ALHS SPANISH CLUB.
Our first meeting is coming up on Thursday, October 15, 2020 in room 231. You can attend at 7:20 am (before school) or at 2:50 pm
(after school).
Hope to see you there. Señora Gemelas

Attention Students:
Plans to adjust the quantity of hours making one eligible for a community service cord have been put on hold for the 2020-2021 school year, particularly the class of 2021. Seniors graduating in 2021 will only need to log 30 community service hours by April 1 to receive the service cord. All subsequent classes beginning with the class of 2022 will need 45 hours logged by April of their senior year to receive the honor. The most hours a student can receive for a semester of being a student-aide will continue to be 30 for this year and reduce to 15 next year.
All forms MUST be signed by an adult supervisor who can verify the hours were completed as noted and should not be a parent of the student. You can drop off hard copies to Room 195, you can ask a secretary in the main office to put it Mr. Arra’s mailbox, OR you can send a .jpg or .pdf of a completed form to [email protected]. The email option will continue until the pandemic is over. Blank hard copies are available in the office, guidance office, or in room 195
