Facilitated by rapid advances in internet technology, we are on the brink of a fourth industrial revolution. Digital Industry 4.0 combines communications, IT, data and physical elements and changes traditional plants into smart factories. For you, keeping up with these developments means getting ready for Horticulture 4.0.

To address several game changing challenges for the horticultural sector, Frug I Com, in association with GS1 in Europe and IFPS, organises the second European Forum and Round Table on fresh information management. The event will take place in the first week of December.

We offer you the possibility to gain more insight, discuss a wide range of issues and meet entrepreneurs, companies, specialists and researchers.

With 200 delegates from four continents and more than 17 countries, the first edition in December 2014 was the event of the year in fresh produce, ICT and information standards around the globe. In this flyer you can read last year’s impressions and views of delegates.

Like last year the city and port of Rotterdam will be the meeting point. More detailed information on the program will be presented soon on Fresh Plaza and the Frug I Com website.

“LEKKER”“As co-leader of the GS1 in Europe Fruit and Vegetable Group I think the conference gave a great picture of what we achieved in standardisation and how these results are implemented now. But moreover we were able to see everything in a broader context of topics that are relevant for the F&V industry and how the different activities, developments and initiatives supplement each other. The overall aim is to have an efficient and secure supply chain and to make consumers happy with ‘lekker’ (tasty) fruit and vegetables.”

Klaus Förderer, Co-leader GS1 in Europe Fruit and Vegetable Group

Frug I Com - 2nd EU Fresh Info - Forum & Round Table 2015

GREAT “Great workshops, great people, great experience! The 1st EU Fresh Info showed SanLucar where we are and where we need to go in terms of standardization and digitalization. This is probably the start of the leading conference for standards in the world of fresh and I am looking forward to the conferences to come”.

Christoph Waltert,Business Excellence, SanLucar Fruit S.L.

NEW INSIGHTS “A forum that succeeded in bringing a vast representation of major international stakeholders from private and public sector together around new insights, challenges and opportunities in our sector.”

Tom Quets,CIO Capespan Global Fruit Marketing

SUSTAINABLE “The 1st Fresh Info Forum was a great event and I was pleased to see the obvious understanding of sustainability as a key issue for the sector. I am looking forward to next year’s forum.”

Jim Bracken, Sustainability Director GS1 Global Office

EU OR GLOBAL?“Especially if you are new to the fresh industry, the 1st EU Fresh Info Forum in Rotterdam was the place to be. High profile stakeholders from farm to fork mingle and exchange thoughts about the status quo of fresh supply chains in vivid discussions. Personally I Ioved to meet all the people in person, that I have read works of. I am looking forward to see what the future of Fresh Info brings.”

Christoph Müller-Dechent, CEO & Founder FoodLoop

SUMMARY FROM A BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE BY Willem de Rooij, Assistant Operations Manager Europe, Zespri Service Centre N.V

“The first day of the forum provided a great introduction to a wide diversity of subjects, all connected to standardized digitalization to further support the fresh produce industry, all the way from grower to consumer, presented by some 13 different speakers.

Topics included fundamentals of T&T, use of social media and use of databars & apps to provide both instant consumer traceability and -feedback, as well as advanced options to avoid food waste and obtain enhanced diets or menu suggestions for health conscious consumers.

The workshop sessions on day 2 allowed delegates to gain more in depth knowledge on a selection of the topics as mentioned above.

Last but not least, both days provided plenty of opportunity for networking with the various delegates!”

DELEGATES ABOUT THE FIRST EVENT

INSIGHT“Without events such as this one there is a natural tendency for industry to be completely unaware of work occurring in other countries which can offer significant benefits within their country and business. Gaining insight into the Single Window Initiative of WCO, the substantive efforts around fTrace and much more made the event one which everyone engaged in this part of the produce business should consider attending next year.“

Jane Proctor, Vice President Policy & Issue Management, Canadian Produce Marketing Association.

VERY USEFUL“The conference was a very productive get-together of people from IT, solution providers, F&V industry, retail governmental and standardization bodies. Numerous presentations contained eye-opening aspects to me. The side conversations promised a fruitful after-conference collaboration. Very useful.”

Jens Kungl, Supply Chain Management, METRO SYSTEMS GmbH

SUMMERY OF THE EVENT BYDan Vaché, United Fresh Produce Association, Vice President Supply Chain Management

“The first EU Fresh Info Forum & Round Table meeting was set in a great location aboard the SS Rotterdam and kept the delegates together to share thoughts and ideas throughout the two day event.

The value of the first EU Fresh Info Forum included exposure to multiple disciplines used in the fresh fruit and vegetable industry to help move the industry forward. The opportunity for interaction among attendees discussing the current needs and challenges of our great industry was an added bonus. The entire event provided for a great learning experience on the importance of using accepted standards, emerging technology and pointed out the need as a worldwide industry to work together for the good of the industry and ultimately consumers.”

John Hall,Solutions Manager Sustainability and Traceability, GS1 UK

IMPRESSED “I was very impressed with the relevance of the topics and quality of the speakers. The roundtables were very informative with my only disappointment being that I could not attend every one of the roundtables, as the topics were all of great interest to me.”

Ed Treacy, Chair IFPS & Vice President, Supply Chain Efficiencies Produce Marketing Association

FOCUS “On a national level we have made agreements regarding standardisation. Now we need to focus on a European and global level to reach international agreements for suppliers and retail. By increasing the level of knowledge in the whole fruit and vegetable industry one can reach a momentum to create a basis on a national and international level. The main focus should be on the most important issues and to set goals with all parties involved; retail and supplier, accompanied by Frug I Com and GS1. Hereby the EU Forum provides a huge international boost.”

Radbout Buijs, Functional Application Manager Nature’s Pride

SOLUTIONS 4.0 Challenge >> New solutions on the interface of ICT and fresh produce are needed to enable the industry to work more efficiently, make use of the opportunities which the (online) market offers and come into contact with consumers’ needs. We want to show the fresh produce industry the potential of

new technologies. Therefore we challenge start-up companies to take part in the Horticulture 4.0 Solutions Challenge and pitch their solutions. If you have such a solution (software, apps, drones, robots, sensors, etc.) and you want to show it to the industry at the EU Fresh Info Forum & Round Table, go to: www.frugicom.nl/EUforum and fill in the Call for Solutions 4.0-form before the 1st of September. The program committee will judge the calls and invite the winners to join the conference (see the form for the conditions).

LOCATIONThe event will take place in Rotterdam at the SS Rotterdam, the largest passenger liner ever built in the Netherlands and numbered among the most successful liners which ever sailed the seven seas. Moored in the heart of the port of Rotterdam, amidst container terminals where fresh produce from the world is unloaded daily, it’s an inspiring location. The SS Rotterdamis also the event’s hotel with its 250 rooms.

REGISTRATION & FEESThis year the organisers ask you to pay a small fee for your registration. At the early-bird-rate a two day full access pass is available from € 300 (till 15 September).
