Why Annotate?
Recording your initial connections and ideas as you read is an important step in the literary analysis process!
It can help you understand what you are reading!
By the time you finish reading and annotating a piece, much of the analysis is already done!
Evidence to support the analysis is identified!
How can I annotate?
CHOICES
As you read highlight and label key information.
As you read take marginal notes. These notes can include stars, check marks, phrases, questions, question marks, words, etc.
Keep a list of key information with page numbers on the front cover (refer to teachers/assignments for what constitutes key information)

Write a brief summary at the end of each chapter or section.
Journal about important quotes or passages
Write an alternative title for each chapter or section.
List vocabulary words on the back cover.
