As an approach to the topic of internet usage I felt that it could be narrowed down to
internet addiction which would be the over usage of the internet. Due the research of this topic I
have found different subjects that can be used to explain and give cause and effect to internet
addiction. Some of the causes may include a need for an escape or as a way to isolate yourself
due to loneliness or depression. The effects of internet addiction are very similar to the effects of
other addictions, such as increased hostility and impulsiveness.
Since the internet is something that is constantly being used every day the continued and
increased amount of exposure may have effects that are not wanted. These unwanted affects may
lead a person to become addicted to the internet which may cause more problems. As technology
has advanced it has added more of a need for people to make use of the internet. Some of these
added uses would be for things such as access to information about daily news and information
about friends and their daily activities. The internet is also need for more important things such
as classes that are dependent upon the use of the internet. Though the internet has also had an
increase in use due to people who use it for when they need entertainment. With the growing
amount of dependence upon the internet the chances for people to develop an addiction to the
internet increase more and more.

A link between drug and gambling addiction to internet addiction was made by comparing the way the two increase impulsiveness in those that have become addicted. The source uses good resources and presents its arguments based upon the facts presented from the research. It seems to be a useful source for my subject due to its strong focus on how it can be defined as an addiction. The source used information that increased the understanding of the subject. Overall the work would appear to be a reliable source of information that would be usable for presenting information about addictions.

This source focuses on the hostility that is shown in the online media and how it is brought into the real world and how it effects behavior. This source may be useful due to its focus on how people are likely to be exposed to violent media. Though it does not focus on internet addiction which could be difficult to work into the research and other sources. The effectiveness of the source would be used with internet addiction by showing how the addiction can lead to more violence from people who spend more time exposed to the violent media presented.

This source shows the controversy of classifying the overuse of the internet as an addiction as well as how it relates to other addiction. Reasons as to why someone may spend the amount of time on the internet that would lead to an addiction such as a need for an escape which the internet may provide. This source may not be as usable due to its similarities to some of the other sources though it still presents strong information as well as backing up the information from other sources. This source may provide useful information for supporting arguments of either view.
