As the name suggests, our interpretation of the Candy Pop Cushion and Blanket really is a feast of colour for your eyes. It combines a lovely selection of smooth and subtle hues but with flashes

of eye catching brights. A pleasure to make.

THE BASIC 3 ROUND GRANNY SQUARE

Foundation ring: ch 4 and join with sl st to form a ring. Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as 1 tr), 2 tr into ring, ch 2, * 3 tr into ring, ch 2; rep from* twice more, join with sl st into 3rd of original ch 3. Sl st into next 2 trs, sl st into next ch-3 sp. Round 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1 tr), [2 tr, ch 2, 3 tr] into same sp (corner made), * ch 1, [3 tr, ch 2, 3 tr] into next ch-3 sp; rep from * twice more, ch 1. Join with sl st to 3rd of ch 3. Round 3: Sl st into next 2 trs, sl st into next ch-3 sp. Then ch 3 (counts as 1 tr), [2 tr, ch 2, 3 tr] into same sp, * ch 1. 3 tr into ch 1 sp, ch 1, ** [3 tr. ch 2, 3 tr] into next ch-2 corner sp, rep from * twice and from * to ** once again. Join with sl st into 3rd ofch 3.

Edging round for all small squaresUsing white join into a corner space, ch3, 1tr into space, * 1dc into each of next 3 stitches, 1htr into ch1 sp, 1dc into each of next 3 stitches, 1htr into ch1 space, 1dc into each of next 3 stitches, 2tr into corner space. Repeat from * around your square and sl st to 3rd st of starting chain.Sew in ends securely.

Cushion FrontUsing 3.5mm hook work 49 small granny squares in shades as per cushion grid.

Using 3.5mm hook edge each square in white following instructions for edging round.

Join your squaresUse 3.5mm hook and white.

You will start by joining each strip to the next from bottom to top and then when all strips are joined vertically you will finish by joining horizontally.

With squares wrong sides together line up so that the stitches on each square match.Take your hook through one stitch from side edge of each square and work a dc.

Continue in this way by taking a stitch from the side of each square and working a dc until you have ‘seamed’ a column. Repeat across the grid until all 7 columns have been joined.Repeat this process again to join columns from side to side.

Cushion back (One large Granny square)Using a 3.5mm hook. To start follow instructions for basic 3 round granny square and then continue further rounds by maintaining the 3tr, ch2, 3tr in the corner spaces and 3tr, ch1 (increasing this repeat x 1 per side every round) across the side edges.Change colour every round as follows:Fondant, Cloud, Silver, Sherbet, Clematis, Lavender, Storm, Parchment, Fondant, Lime, Silver, Mocha, Clematis, Denim, Stone, Parma, Sherbet, Cloud, Soft Peach, Pomegranate, Lime, Cloud, Pale Rose, Wisteria.

Sew in all ends securely.

Finishing cushionUsing 3.5mm hook and shade Pomegranate. With the wrong sides of your cushion cover pieces facing commence in one corner and matching one stitch from cushion front and one from cushion back dc together. Continue working in this way until 3 sides have been joined. Place cushion pad inside cushion cover and continue in the same way joining the fourth side and enclosing your cushion pad.Sew in ends securely.

The BlanketUsing 3.5mm hook work 149 three round granny squares in shades as per grid. (Remember you are working the cushion grid 4 times for your blanket).

Using 3.5mm hook edge each square in white using instructions for edging round.

Joining your squaresFollow instructions for joining squares for cushion front. Remember columns 1-7 are repeated again as are rows A-G. Your blanket is 14 squares x 14 squares.

When your blanket is joined vertically and horizontally you are ready to work your border.

BorderUsing 3.5mm hook and shade white.Round 1: With right side facing working one round of htr (working 3htr into each corner) and sl st to start. Round 2: Using Pomegranate work one round of dc. Sl st to start.

Sew in ends securely.
