Report on Vigilance Awareness Week 2019

(28 October – 02 November 2019)

Theme: Integrity-A way of life (ईमानदारी- एक जीवन शैली)

Name of the Organization: ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya (HQ),

along with its centres located at the states of Manipur, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura,

Sikkim and Nagaland and 20 KVKs located in different districts on NE India

1. A brief write up on the activities conducted during Vigilance Awareness Week 2019 (In

about 1000 words)

The observance of Vigilance Awareness Week 2019 was started on 28 October 2019 in ICAR RC

NEH HQ, it’s all centres and KVKs with taking of Integrity Pledge. At ICAR Umiam, the Director

(I/C) Dr. R Laha administered the oath to all the staff members present. He also elaborated

about the meaning of maintain integrity at all levels of life including the office. The

administrative section of the HQ organized a group discussion to generate vigilance awareness

among its staff members. To commemorate the occasion various competitive events were

organized among the staff members on all the days and the events were quiz, extempore of

speech, essay writing and slogan writing. Participants to part with lots of enthusiasm and the

winners were given prizes on the day on closing ceremony. The vigilance awareness programs

were also taken up at various divisions, sections, administration etc. Closing ceremony was held

on 02 November 2019 where Director (Acting) Dr. BK Kandpal chaired the session, given away

the prizes and delivered a lecture on how to keep the level of individual and organizational

integrity. Director, in his lecture, said that a person with true integrity exhibits certain traits

such as they take responsibility for all their actions, always help others in need, often put the

needs of others above themselves, respect everyone that deserves their respect, usually

humble and exhibit humility, generally very reliable and kind by nature and people should try to

adopt these qualities in all possible way.

ICAR Manipur Centre, Imphal organized the Vigilance Awareness Week during 28th October to

2nd November 2019. As part of the awareness week Integrity Pledge was also taken by the staff

and employees of the Centre along with the KVK on 28thOctober 2019. As a part of the

observance a lecture on Vigilance and Integrity was delivered by the Joint Director of ICAR

Manipur Centre on 28thOctober 2019. Banner display and Poster campaign with respect to

Vigilance Awareness was also conducted as part of the programme. The Programme concluded

with a formal discussion among the employees on 2nd November 2019.

ICAR Arunachal Pradesh Centre

Vigilance Awareness Week was observed at ICAR Arunachal Pradesh Centre, Basar during 28th

October to 2nd November. All the staff of the centre and KVK West Siang took integrity pledge

on opening day. During the occasion, Joint Director of the centre, Dr H Kalita briefed the

objective behind the observation of Vigilance Awareness Week and reiterated the significance

of integrity, transparency and good governance in all aspects of our operations for overall

development of any organization and whole nation. Dr Kalita also urged all the staff to maintain

punctuality and do the assigned work in best possible standard. Coordinating the event, Dr Doni

Jini, Scientist Veterinary Extension, explained the concept of accountability and ethical behavior

and their significance in maintaining healthy working environment. Dr Rajesh Alone, Scientist

Agro-forestry, said that there is need to built attitudes of integrity and then to mainstreaming

these into the society and social system. During the occasion, Dr Jitendra Kumar and Dr Ampee

Tasung, Scientists Social Sciences, explained different initiatives by the government to

intelligently resist corruption.

Different activities like essay, debate, quiz and poster competitions for staff were organized

during the week to spread awareness on the focal theme “Integrity-A way of life” and

coordinated by Mr Kaushik Bhagawati, Technical Officer. Also drawing and essay competition

was organized for children of the campus. All the staff of the centre and KVK West Siang

actively participated in the different activities during the week.

On the concluding day, valedictory function was organized and Dr H Kalita distributed prizes to

the winners of different activities. Concluding the session, Dr Kalita explained that social and

organizational norms, rules and ethics were made to safeguard our system and interest of

those in it and related to it and it’s our prime duty to maintain integrity with our work, integrity

with our organization, integrity with our society and integrity with our nation.

ICAR Mizoram Centre

KVK Longding, Arunachal Pradesh started with pledge taking ceremony on 28-10-2019 and

organized a panel discussion on importance of maintenance of professional and academic

integrity. They distributed about 200 pamphlets among the participants and citizens. Essay

writing competition organized on 1st Nov., 2019 among the students of Govt. Higher Secondary

School, Kanubari and 27 students participated in it. Group meeting was also conducted and

taken the pledge (28th Oct., 2019) at Kanubari Gram Panchayat and anti-corruption posters

were displayed.
