RE: CITY OFAIRDRIEANNEXATIONAPPLICATION SUBMISSION
The City of Airdrie is pleased to submit the enclosed
application for annexation of land from Rocky View County to
the City of Airdrie (see attached Schedule A). The City of
Airdrie and Rocky View County have workedcooperatively in the
development of the Annexation Application (and enclosed Appendix 2-
Annexation
Agreement).
The City of Airdrie formally initiated this annexation process
by sending written Notice of Intent to Annex to Rocky
View County on March 1, 2010. This was followed by both
municipalities establishing an Inter-municipal
Annexation Negotiating Committee (IANC). In accordance with the
annexation provisions of the Municipal
Government Act and with the assistance of a provincially
appointed mediator, the IANC negotiated the terms o
annexation while concurrently engaging the public and public
agencies.
Due to the large size of this annexation the IANC did not seek
signed consents from all affected landowners.
Therefore, this Annexation Application cannot be deemed
uncontested by the Municipal Government Board
Nonetheless all issues identified through the public
consultation process were reviewed and addressed by theIANC. It
should be noted, that those who have submitted formal letters of
objection to date are requesting inclusion
in the proposed annexation territory.
The annexation process concluded with the approval of the
Mediation Report by the City of Airdrie Council after a
public hearing on May 2nd, 2011 and by Rocky View County Council
after a public hearing on May 17 th, 2011. The
motions passed by both municipalities directed staff to develop
an Annexation Application and Agreement
consistent with the findings of the Mediation Report. The
Annexation Agreement was further approved on
September 6th, 2011 by Rocky View County Council.
