• Else Holmelund Minarik is the author of the “Little Bear” series of children's books, which were successful as books, and were also made into a successful children's TV series.

• She was born in Denmark. Her family moved to the United States when she was four. She taught first-graders during WWII.

• She begin writing stories for her students when she could not find good books for her first graders

to read.

• Maurice Sendak grew up in New York. He was a frail and sickly child. Spending much of his young life indoors, he turned to books at an early age.

• His view of the outside world was often limited to the family that came to visit him and the little that he could see from his window.

• So he began to draw and to allow his imagination to run free.

• One of his best known children’s book is WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE
