ANNE CZICHOWSKY QUINTET /// MUSICIANS ANNE CZICHOWSKY – VOCALS Anne Czichowsky, born in 1981 in Schaffhausen (CH), studied jazz vocals from 2001 to 2007 at the universities of music in Stuttgart and Graz (Austria). Since then, she has established herself as a soloist and bandleader in various jazz projects and has won several international jazz awards. (e.g. 2008 “Int. Jazz Singer Contest Lady Summertime” in 2008 in Finland and “Bucharest Int. Jazz Competition” in Romania) Furthermore, she received the "Landesjazzpreis Baden-Württemberg", which is one of the most prestigious jazz awards in Germany. For the first time in 26 years this award was given to a singer. With the „Anne Czichowsky Quintet“, she published her third album called „The truth and the abstract blues“ in 2014 on Double Moon Records, two other albums were published before in 2009 and 2011 on “Neuklang”. Apart from her quintet, she currently also tours with “Lines for Ladies”, a collaboration with German jazzsinger Sabine Kühlich. Anne Czichowsky teaches jazz vocals at the Universities of Music in Saarbrücken and Stuttgart. THILO WAGNER – PIANO Jazz pianist Thilo Wagner took his first lessons in piano at the age of 5. After a classical education in Karlsruhe he soon played with well-known bands and projects, such as the “Emil Mangelsdorff Quartet”, “Charlie Antolinis Jazz Power”, the “European Swing All Stars” and many more. So far Thilo Wagner can be heard on over 60 CDs. He performed on festivals all over Europe, Canada, the USA and South America. He was awarded as a soloist at the Jazzfestival Vienne (France), and also received the Honorary Citizenship of New Orleans. Thilo Wagner has played with e.g. Scott Hamilton, Jim Hall, Art Farmer, Bob Mintzer, Danny Moss, Ack van Rooyen, Charlie Mariano, Harry Allen, Warren Vache, Clark Terry, Slide Hampton, Martin Drew, Buddy DeFranco, Peanuts Hucko, Butch Miles, Billy Mitchell and many more. He’s currently a constant member of the “Emil Mangelsdorff Quartet”, the “Allotria Jazzband”, the “New Frankfurt Jazz Connection” and the “Bassface Swing Trio”. MARTIN WIEDMANN – GUITAR Martin Wiedmann studied classical guitar at the University of Music in Stuttgart with Prof. Mario Sicca. He got his skills in jazz guitar in lessons with Mike Stern, Emily Remler, Dave Liebman, Rufus Reid and Pat Metheny. He was a member of the “German Jazz Orchestra” under the conduction of Peter Herbolzheimer. He appears as a guitarist and composer in many projects such as “Cornichon”, the trio Horstmann_Wiedmann_Daneck, Trio Emanuel (Klezmer), NY Voice plus Guitar, Timeless Art Orchestra, Bobby Burgess Big Band Explosion, instant loop generation, Dieter Reith Sextett, Roland Weber Quintett, Wiedmann|King|Krischkowsky. He played with Bobby Burgess, Bobby Shew, Claudio Roditi, Don Menza, Ack van Rooyen, Chuck Israels, Jiggs Whigham, and Lauren Newton. In the sector of Chamber Music, he performed in the “Duo Deciso” together with Ulrich Warnecke. Furthermore, Martin collaborated many times with the „Staatstheater Stuttgart”. As a composer, he worked for the musical shows "Zeitshow" & “Funkenflug”, as well as for the orchestra “Jazz@Large”. Martin Wiedmann is well-respected as a teacher in workshops and teaches at the music school of the city of Stuttgart.

AXEL KÜHN – BASS Axel Kühn was born in 1981 in Tübingen (South Germany). At the age of twelve he first got in touch with making music by learning guitar. At the age of 15, he changed from guitar to electric bass, and finally discovered the double bass at the age of 17. From this time on, he took lessons with his uncle Paul Müller, a professional jazz bass player. From 2002 to 2007 he studied jazz music at the University of Music Stuttgart with Prof. Mini Schulz, Prof. Günther Lenz and Henrik Mumm, and graduated in 2007 with the top grade summa cum laude Since 2005 he leads his own jazz project „Kühntett“. In October 2006, the

debut album of Kühntett called „The contemporary jazz movement“ was published on the label Satin Doll Productions, the album caused a great stir among the jazz community. In 2006, “Kühntett” came second place performing at the “International Jazz Award Biberach” as well as in 2007 at the “International Young Jazz Competition Straubing”, both highly esteemed jazz awards of the German jazz scene. In December 2006, Axel Kühn toured through Europe with the famous “Mahler Chamber Orchestra” under the conduction of Daniel Harding and with the soloists Anne-Sophie von Otter and Peter Mattei. In November 2008, Axel released his second album with “Kühntett” called “Image of my soul”, this album contains a jazz suite composed by Axel Kühn. In 2009, “Kühntett” won the “1.European Young Jazz Competition Burghausen” in Germany and was a finalist of the “Int. Jazz Hoeilaart Contest” in Belgium. Furthermore, bandleader Axel Kühn was awarded with the “Jazzpreis Baden-Württemberg” for his outstanding achievements in music. In 2011, Kühntett released their third album “Checkpoint Jazz”, containing exclusively original compositions of Axel Kühn. In 2014, he will release another album as a leader, composer and bass player, “Open Minded” by the Axel Kühn Trio.

MATTHIAS DANECK – DRUMS Matthias Daneck, born in 1965, is known for his creativity and versatility and very demanded in the European jazz scene. He studied classical music from 1986-1990 at the Conservatory of Bern (Switzerland) and jazz music at the Swiss Jazz School in Bern with Billy Brooks where he graduated in 1990. He furthermore studied in New York with Kenny Washington, Victor Lewis, John Riley, Joe Morello. He won several international jazz awards, e.g. the 2nd award at the international "Concours d’orchestres" of the Jazzfestival Vienne (F). He toured in many countries such as Africa (Tanzania and Madagascar),

Finland (Jazzfestival Espoo), Ukraine (Jazzkarneval Odessa, with Matthias Daneck’s N.O.W.), Croatia and Slovenia (Matthias Daneck Quartet), Albania. He worked with African and Brazilian musicians (Olodum) and also had numerous classical engagements with e.g. Fabrice Bollon with the Freiburg Philharmonic Orchestra, as a soloist with James Avery and Ensemble Surplus, at the Stadttheater Bern, Stadttheater Basel, Berner Kammerorchester and many more. He’s the bandleader and composer of his own ensemble “Matthias Daneck's N.O.W.”, composer and soloist with the electronic music projects „the instant loop generation“, „drumatic X“ and „T.H.E.N.“ He’s a member of for example Böhm-Huber-Daneck-Trio, Happy House (CH/D), Manfred Junker Quartet, Zipflo Reinhardt Quartet, Adderley!, Horstmann/Wiedmann/Daneck, Andy Herrmann Trio, Charly Haigl’s Festival Band, Edge etc. He played with jazz greats like Clarke Terry, Randy Brecker, Debbie Sledge, Jerry Gonzales, Jimmy Woode, Reggie Johnson, Bireli Lagrene, Johannes Enders, Zipflo Reinhardt, Jean-Yves Jung, Jeff Richman, Arturo Sandoval, Bobby Shew, Annie Whitehead, Matt Smith, Wolfgang Engstfeld, Ingrid Jensen, Domenic Landolf, Adrian Mears, Dusko Gojkovitch, Eric van Lier, Carla Cook, Joe Haider, Chuck Israels, Bill Nelson, Tony Lakatos, Roby Lakatos, Gary Barone, John Stowell, Florian Trübsbach, Rainer Böhm, Dano Haider, Timeless Art Orchestra, Bobby Burgess Bigband, The Glenn Miller Orchestra Europe.
