    REGULAR ACTIVITIES:

    CATERING:

Service to people is happiness. The volunteers were divided into various

teams and each team assisted the cooking masters in various works which

included chopping vegetables, washing vessels and utensils, cleaning the cooking

area and so on. The catering activity served to a greater extent to improve unity

and team work among all the first years. Many of them learnt how to sweep and

clean vessels as well as understood the plight of household works which was a

    great accomplishment.

    SCHOOL TEACHING:

    CATER IN G ACTIVITY 1

The elementary school had computer facilities which was a good measure

taken by the faculty members to enrich the knowledge of young minds. All the

teams took turns in teaching the kids about basics of computer operation. Also,

various encouraging sport events were conducted for the students and prizes were

distributed. Those kids bonded well with the volunteers and it was a great space

for mutual learning. Rhymes and stories were taught to the kindergarten sections

    by the volunteers.

    FIELD WORK:

All the garbage in classrooms and school playground were cleaned for the

whole week. Food and other wastes were duly disposed in garbage covers and all

the places where we stayed were cleaned before leaving the place.

VOLUNTEER ACTIVE INVOLVEM ENT IN FIELD WOR K 1

Inside the campus, shapes and Tamil letters were painted and many trees

were planted. There was no hesitation among the volunteers in cleaning the

campus. They whole heartedly dedicated themselves in the assigned work.

    TREE PLANTATION:

One of the primary requests of the villagers when the volunteers visited

them was to plant trees throughout the village. As per the request, 60 trees and

saplings were properly planted near people’s home and temples and were taken

care every day. People were happier to see many plants around their place.

    INFORMATION PASSING:

As a part of the regular schedule of camp, the various teams were

assigned schedule to inform the village people about the sessions we were about

to conduct for the villagers. It was a very lively activity with the student volunteers

having a great opportunity to interact directly with the commoners. All the people

were very friendly and listened to us with keen interest. Many students, who have

not even interacted with their neighbours in cities felt it very intriguing and

interesting to face the new circumstances.

    RAINWATER HARVESTING:

The nearby high school had a rainwater harvesting system which was

damaged. However, due to the efficient planning of student volunteers, it was

renovated and was made capable to save rainwater. The Head Master and other

staff were highly impressed by this activity and congratulated every one of us.

    VOLUNTEERS INVOLVED IN RAINWATER HARVESTING

    CULTURALS:

Fine arts have been a great stress relief to all humans since the age of

time. As a part of refreshment, the catering team of the day performed various

cultural activities like dancing, singing, skit and exploration of various other soft

skills. With barely few hours to practice, the participants learnt time management

    and event planning.

It was a fun-filled and exciting activity as the audience enjoyed as much

as the participants. School children from the locality were also elated to be part

    of the enthusiastic audience.

    VOLUNTEERS’ CULTURAL PERFORMANCE

    MAIN EVENTS

    MEDICAL CAMP:

A Medical Camp was organized by volunteers of YRC with the help of

‘Chettinad Hospital and Research Centre ‘on 26/06/19. We the volunteers

campaigned in and around the village about the necessities of Medical Camp.

The camp was held between 9.30 AM and 1.30 PM and around 80 villagers

attended the medical check-up to know about their health condition. General body

check-up like blood pressure, sugar level were also carried out. Most of them

checked their eye and sugar level in their body. They prescribed some medicines

for patients and advised them to follow itregularly.

Some of them were insisted to undergo secondary medical treatment at their

Hospital. At the end of the camp most of the villagers became aware about their

health problems and they were surprised to have this type of free medical check-

    up in their remote village.

  • 15

    MEDICAL CAMP

    ORGANIC FARMING:

Old is gold. With most of our naturally fertile lands almost extinct,

Namundi Pasumai Nala Sangam rose to be one of the rarest teams keenly

interested in bringing back the old organic farming practices. A team of active

volunteers from Pasumai Nala Sangam presented a detailed view over how to use

natural waste and natural products to fertilize the farmlands.

In the afternoon session, they conducted an informative drama that

perfectly put forth the plight of all farmers. The session was attended by many

villagers who found it to be very informative and useful.

The team was also given a memento on behalf of The Youth Red Cross of

    MIT.

    ORGANIC FARMING

    SATTA PANCHAYAT:

Many students have attained our legal age of 18. But how many of us know

the basic advantages of being a legalcitizen? Mr. Ranga Prasad from Satta

Panchayat Iyakkam interacted with school students for almost two hours about

the fundamental rights. He also insisted that is necessary to possess documents

on attaining the age of 18.

He also spoke in detail about the Right To Information Act and even made

students to write an RTI letter. It was very informative. The staff and students

were very interested in the session.

  • 17

    SATTA PANCHAYAT SESSION

1 Books were presented as gifts to students who answered various questions put

forward by Mr. Ranga Prasad and also to who posted some innovative questions

    during the session.

    FIRST AID SESSION:

We arranged a first aid session for the school students and for the people

from Pon Vilaintha Kalathur. Prof.R. Manickam from IRCS has conducted a

very interesting demonstrative session. Many students from the school as well

participated and enthusiastically cooperated him. He interacted with the crowd

    while having fun.

The speaker taught everyone with patience from the scratch and defined

many situations to implement our first aid knowledge. He demonstrated many

emergency cases by asking the crowd to volunteer. Many students actively

volunteered themselves in learning first aid. The villagers curiously put forth

questions towards the speaker and clarified their doubts.

  • 18

    FIRST AID SESSION

    AMBULANCE SESSION:

A session about the service of Ambulance was organized for the school

students with the help of the ambulance driver and technicians on Friday- June

28, 2019. The session was actively carried out by the Ambulance technicians and

the volunteers of YRC. The technicians explained the purpose and the types of

Ambulance that is running around TAMILNADU and also throughoutINDIA.

They explained about the equipment which is using during the emergency

time. And they shared the knowledge about the First Aid for the person who met

with some accident or some other sudden illness. They mentioned about the

emergency number 108 for calling the Ambulance. They came from

    “TAMILNADU ARASU MAKKAL NALVAAZHVU MATTRUM

KUDUMBA NALATHURAI”. The students keenly observed their advice and

asked their doubts to the technicians.

    AMBULANCE SESSION

    PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT SESSION:

A Personality Development Session was organized by volunteers of

YRC with the help of Mrs. Vanathi from ‘That’s My Child’ on 28/06/19.

The camp was held at school campus for the student from 9th to 12th.

Overall 60 students attended the session. She advised the students to concentrate

more on their board exams in order to score good marks. She also gave a lit bit

of lecture to students about their future education plans. Students were really

motivated and blessed to have that valuable session.

She also assured that their organization will take care of students who get

good marks in their board exams but financially low. Students were finally

inspired by her words of thoughts.

    ART SESSION:

It was a learning session in which students improved their art skills. It

was held at school campus on 26/06/19 from 2.00 PM to 4.30 PM. It was

organized by student volunteers of YRC, MADRAS INSTITUTE OF

TECHNOLOGY. Volunteers from the ‘KALAI KOODAM STARTUP’ made

their presence there and boosted up their creativity.

Around 40 students of standard 4 to 7 attended the session and they were

provided with stationery items. They were really surprised to have this type of

stationery items like colour pencils, pen, notebooks, and crayons.

It was no doubt that most of the students quenched their art thirst. They

got innovative ideas about the drawing skills and gained some knowledge for

using the pencils in a creative way.

    VALEDICTION:

After 7 days of being part of complete new circumstances, the valedictory

ceremony was a great way to express our gratitude to the school teachers, other

technicians, villagers and all others who made sure that we had a pleasant stay.

Many stationery items and an electric bell was gifted to the Elementary school on

our behalf. A school teacher, who retired on that day was felicitated and

    certificates were issued to everyone.

    CAMP FIRE:

Fire is an embodiment of light and a force that drives away the hurdles.

To celebrate the joy of service, to symbolize the harmony of volunteers a camp

fire was organised inside the school premises and it was ensured to be completely

    environment friendly.

    CAMP FIRE

    THE FINAL DAY:

While most of the first years were initially reluctant to attend the camp,

eventually all of them bonded well with each other which was the ultimate

    success of Annual Camp 2019.

Many passed out seniors offered their humble presence and shared their

personal experiences in MIT and YRC. They all became nostalgic while talking

and we too felt their hearts. The catering team carried out their duties and there

was an elaborate photo session where every one of us captured and reminded

some lifetime memories. By 11.00 AM in the morning, our return journey began.

Many school children bid us a teary farewell and so did we. We all left bits and

pieces of our hearts with hopes of retrieving them some other day. Thus is the

end of one of the most cherishable seven days of all our lives.
