A Vision for Anna Maria
Historic Green Village
Our Plans for Pine AvenueMike and Lizzie Thrasher
April 2010
A Vision for 7 plots on Pine Avenue
1. 427 Beach Bums
2. 307 The General Store
3. 425 Warehouse
4. 501 (empty, overgrown)
5. 503 Rosedale Cottage
6. 505 (garages)
7. 507 (1915 house)
Why don’t we….?
• Encourage people to travel from one end of Pine Avenue to the other on foot….
• Revive and renew what we have of historic value…..
• Ensure all our buildings are remarkable, beautiful, useful….and as historic as possible to showcase Old Florida…..
Background on Mike & Lizzie Thrasher
• Mike - British Designer, Lizzie – Green Entrepreneur
• Together we created the Organix Children’s food company, which inspired the Jamie Oliver school dinner campaign in the UK
• We would like to see Anna Maria work for everyone
Background on Mike & Lizzie Thrasher
• We work on our buildings with local people:
– Sissy Quinn, Betty Yanger and the Historical Society on the integrity of our plans
– Gene Aubry and Dan Gagne on design and build
• Our approach to commerce:
– create useful businesses, in appealing buildings
– run by green energy (solar and ground heat)
– pass them on to local people to own and run
What we’ve done so far
• Beach Bums – $150,000 invested to revive business, now passed over to Lauren Sato + Diane Havelka
• General Store – in transition– Plan to pass it over to Brian Seymour once it is
profitable and new services established
• We’ve recently been approached by two local people to see if we will help them develop:– Island Microbrewery
– Island Kitchen (bakery, Italian foods)
427 - Beach BumsRenewed and Revived – now a thriving local business owned by two local
women, paying taxes, providing a service to locals and visitors
Before – faded, past it’s best
After – and with solar power

Permits obtained to expand store area
With potential for more….
425 – A vision for the Warehouse
Previously a garage. We are considering moving the General Store here – it has twice the space of the current address.
More choices, better quality, a better deal for everyone.
Concept for rejuvenated building and new General Store
Current Site of the General Store
Could it eventually house the Micro-Brewery and a smaller Store?
A vision for an Anna Maria
Historic Green Village
501 to 507 Pine Avenue Revived
A walking area with gardens, public facilities, professional services, retail
businesses
505>507
Currently an empty house and some old garages
501>503Another sad piece of history – the Rosedale Cottage, and overgrown
garden area
The Rosedale Cottage – built in 1913An original Gulf Cottage made from Sears Blocks, owned originally by
the Bean family
For 57 yrs from 1951>2008 home of the Rosedale Family – family of 6 – Norman a builder
Now overgrown and un-used
A Possible Future?
- The Rosedale Showroom and Gallery –revived and renewed
An educational showroom, art gallery and garden café for our local artists. Plus public bathrooms.
An opportunity for everyone to experience and enjoy this historic property.
Plus – a move from 308 to 505…. The Sears Cottage
A genuine Sears Catalog cottage constructed in 1935 – given to us in February this year
We plan to move it down the street to 505 Pine
Concept of Rosedale and Sears cottages after rejuvenation
Concept of public green area where people can gather and enjoy refreshments
507 Pine Avenue
1915 – most recently occupied by the Carter family and now not at it’s best
A Future for 507?
We are exploring its conversion to a walk in Health Care center, after making it available to a local family for the next year
Potential overall view of 501>507 Pine Avenue
Some Local Supporters“We at the AMI Historical Society are dedicated to preserving and celebrating Anna Maria’s living past. It is with a great deal of enthusiasm that we look forward to these efforts at properly reinvigorating and utilizing some of our most precious historic cottages.”
Betty Yanger, Director, Anna Maria Historical Society
“Keeping the historic buildings that are on the (Cosy Corner) lot and moving the “Sears Roebuck” Home there will certainly add to City’s own preservation efforts as beautifully arrayed at the City of Anna Maria Historical Park, The Playhouse, and the City Pier. While the homes will be privately owned, they will remain a part of our City’s history because of these newcomers to our country and our city. “
Sissy Quinn, President, Anna Maria Island Preservation Trust
Anna Maria Historic Green Village
