On the way to conclusions Before reaching the point, when it is possible to draw conclusions, you are constantly collecting and accumu-lating details. Observations being made from the most possible perspectives are getting included, respected or sometimes smiled at. Endless variations of stories, theories and conspirations can evolve if you combine and add the pieces of the puzzle, that most likely can be found anywhere. Their context and correlation can be either varnished or invented. One detail leads to the next yet it diverts. Observations are becoming corner points/parameters that might be exact; but even they are summed up they are not capable to give an over-view. But a somehow truthful image always arises.Though these images follows rather the own focus and own the own vision than referring to the appropriate dimensions of the particular parts. Additionally, within time, more and more factors emerge, that astonish you and slightly but crucial disarrange the states of affairs, that were supposed to be detected. Thus conclusions become all of a sudden false conclusions. Consequently new conclusions have to be drawn, which might be revealed as soon as they appear in a different light.

APOGEE gathers more than 80 contributions by artists and authors dealing with the topics of isolation, island life and incredible selflessness.

“The invention of the ship was also the invention of the shipwreck.”(Paul Virilio)

APOGEE is the place in the universe that is the most dis-tant to the earth and is a mathematical quantity and al-legory for absolute seclusion. In March 2010, nüans was located in three different time zones. Thus the search of ideas and material for a book project started. Further relocations followed and with each city we hit upon further ideas, people and contributions. Gradually, an expansive archipelago has developed. Finally APOGEE gathers contributions of 80 artists and authors dealing with the topics of isolation, islands and fluctuation.

is an artists collective organized by Maki Umehara, Elmar Hermann and Anna Heidenhain. During the first six months Nüans was located in Düsseldorf-Oberbilk .. In this multicultural surround-ing several group shows took place, each with a specific theme and corresponding program. Since 2007 there is no fixed Nüans location. Instead of being fixed to one space, We look for locations that fit into the context of each specific project. The projects are designed to work in an interdisciplinary way. In order to bring about an exchange of ideas between a wide array of collaborators. This method has led us to hold events in such places as Köln, Bonn, Berlin, Istanbul and Los Angeles. Apogee is the 2nd publication in this working process.

english translation:

A Question of presentation

He wanted to picture his present/gift and its handover beforehand; the way how he would introduce his friend and his ideas he also wanted to think over once more; his performance toward his business partners needed a little improvement and polishing in order to convince by his entire presence . He wanted to generate one good image of himself and by doing so he created several ones.

* Middle High German: presentieren = (a gift) for adoption (respectfully) proffer; in Early Modern German also offer food or drinks ,to let see, exhibit; Origin of old french. presenter = perform, make available, to introduce someone;based on late Latin praesentare present making, to show ; cf. Latin praesentia = power (direct) effect; linguistic proximity to "present" = gift, "present" = present, presence = contemporaneity
