Armani Jeans and Paul Smith formally launched at Quest

Armani Jeans celebrated its arrival in Kolkata with

an elegant cocktail evening hosted by Ritu

Agarwal, a well-known image consultant, and her

husband Prakash Agarwal, who owns Hindusthan

Udyog. The city’s elite came together for the

launch, which took place on 22nd August 2014 at

Quest.

The boutique, which measures 643 sq. ft in area, is

in line with Armani Jeans’ new store concept, with

an affordable bridge-line collection. The collection

has a younger, trendier feel, with bigger logos and

more diverse colours than what one would expect

from a casualwear brand in the Armani portfolio.

The brand stocks the signature denims and other

daywear like t-shirts, shirts, shoes, bags and belts.

This season, Armani Jeans has introduced Italian

savoir faire into the world of jeans, with a collec-

tion that consists of Italian-made garments, iden-

tified by distinguished features like a leather ea-

gle—a hallmark of Armani Jeans—the Italian flag

and side tags. The colours are basic and the wash-

es are natural.

Paul Smith also marked its formal entry to the City

of Joy and to Quest with a grand party in front of

the store. The host of the event was Saharsh Pa-

rekh, son of Utsav Parekh. There was a special live

tabla setup with electronic music and a singer.

Among the high-profile guests was Deepika

Gehani, Creative Director of Genesis Luxury, the

company that has the marketing and distribution

franchisee of many international fashion brands,

including Paul Smith, Armani, Jimmy Choo, Furla

and Michael Kors. Other notable guests included

Mr and Mrs Scott Furssedonn-Wood, British Dep-

uty High Commissioner (Eastern India).

The Paul Smith store at Quest features the whole

range of men's collections from Paul Smith, includ-

ing PS by Paul Smith, Paul Smith London, Paul

Smith Jeans, Shoes and Accessories.

The designer's love for architecture and design is

reflected in this shop as well. The exterior of the

store is very distinctive. Another exciting feature of

the shop is the art wall, that is made up of photo-

graphs taken by Paul Smith himself.

Family-based livelihood is best promoted by mak-ing use of available resources. In villages adjacent to Haldia Energy Ltd (HEL) project in Haldia, sev-eral ponds were lying unutilised. In some cases, lack of skills led to low yield and incomes. As part of its CSR initiatives, HEL has started the “Integrated Aquaculture Intervention for Sustaina-ble Livelihood Promotion” project to improve both knowledge and skills in aquaculture. On 21st Au-gust 2014, HEL, in collaboration with Department of Fishery, Purba Medinipur, Samikshan and Joynagar Gram Panchayat, organised a one-day orientation for 52 fish farmers. The programme was inaugurated by Parbati Patra, Joynagar Gram Panchayat Pradhan. Suman Sahoo and Narendra

Nath Jana, both fishery extension officers, spoke on the technicalities and advantages of organised fish farming. The follow-up actions are:

All fish farmers to be organised under a coop-erative

Members to be trained on improved aquacul-ture by CADC, Tamluk

Pond water testing to check pH factor

Every member to start a compost pit to pro-duce organic fish feed

Monthly fish health check up will be done by FEOs of Sutahata/Tamluk

Cooperative to centrally procure fish feed to reduce transportation and allied costs

Information kiosk with support from Tamluk to be started

Duck rearing to be encouraged in the ponds to improve the water environment

Four volunteers to be selected and trained by District Fishery Department.
