Unique Internship Opportunity in Reduced-Grain Pork Roam Sticks, LLC or rural Missouri is offering a summer internship with an experimental trial aiming to increase forage consumption and reduce grain consumption in commercial pork. The three groups supervised by the intern will include:

-Experiment group #1 will be on a 50% reduced grain (Non-GMO corn and soy) diet, supplemented with high octane forage crops usually used by grass fed dairy farmers. Whey from a cheese house will be part of the ration. -Experiment group #2. Same as above but with the distinction that the grain involved will be Kernza, the first commercially available perennial grain developed by the Land Institute. -Experiment group #3. Zero grain consumption. 100% forage and whey based diet.

At the end of the study a cost/benefit will be done to compare the 3 experiment groups to the control (simple rotationally grazed pastured pigs on a full ration of Non-GMO grain) and nutrient density studies will be done on the meat and fat. The purpose of the study is to add to the body of knowledge that allows farmers to have access to hard data that can help them graze pigs and to help justify higher than grocery store prices in selling to their customers.
