This is what I look like.
I grow to be very big. I have large ears that can be flapped to keep me cool. Both male and female elephants have tusks, which are
actually long teeth. I have a long trunk which I can use to put food in my
mouth. I can smell with my trunk, just like you can smell with your
nose. I have thick, grey, wrinkled skin.

This is the habitat where I usually live.
I live in the savanna grassland plains in East Africa, andsometimes in the forests near the savanna.
Here the summer is rainy and wet, and the winter is verydry.
Many other animals live in the savanna area, such asgiraffes, zebras, lions and ostriches.

This is what I eat.
I eat grass, fruit, leaves and bark. I am herbivorous, I do not eat any meat. I eat a lot of food every day, and I walk from place to
place, searching for more food. I can pick up a little berry with the tip of my trunk, as we
as tear a large branch from a tree to eat the leaves.

Here are some interesting facts about me.
Female (girl) elephants and babies live in a family or herdbut the males (boys) do not.
A baby elephant is called a calf. I keep myself cool by sucking up water into my trunk and
spraying it all over my back. Elephants can live until they are more than 70 years old.
