The film sought to parody the prevailing trend in the so-called international art film scene, whereby the consumers, primarily, Euro-Americans, expect to see poverty porn, i.e. representations of poverty-stricken slums and the life of its inhabitants in the global South from films made by non-Euro-Americans. The metropolitan core consumes the product, in this case, art films whose raw materials are obtained from the impoverished periphery, stories of impoverishment. The protagonists are portrayed throughout the film, to paraphrase Bhabha, as artists parading as political activists, individuals who see no problem in exploiting the poor for the sake of superfluous recognition in the global North. One of the more memorable scenes was towards the end of the film, whereby, the protagonists reconnoitered the site where the film was to be shot. After a short lived period of ecstasy
